Forums - Microsoft - Do you expect the 360 to have a 40/45 million WW install base by 2012?

it will be like 42 million in 2011 and the successor will be on the way at this point. 6 years for one console is enough imo

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

50 million.. its just starting to touch the golden $199-299 price bracket.. thats gonna do wonders for it in a lot of markets.(esp developing countries)..

xbox720 prolly arnd 2011-12 .. the 360 is 3 yrs old graphically and is yet to be bested by the ps3.

It may still finish is third place but it would be on par with ps3.. i dont see sony selling their machine for 10 yrs though.. technology is moving faster than ever console cycles will prolly get shorter n shorter. Sure the ps2 is selling, but then so is the gamecube turbo..sorry ... wii

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

I'm going to say 360 successor by 2011, 2012 latest. I think alot of people forget that the original xbox's life ended prematurely due to Nvidia. The 360 WILL be the flagship console for Microsoft until 2011 at the earliest, I mean a 5 year lifespan is a bit short.

I'm going to say at least 45 million by the time the next-box rolls around, and probably 55-60 million lifetime (as in when production ceases).

I would say anything above 45 million and MS is laughing, they can proudly announce to the world that the 360 increased it's hardware sales 200% over the original xbox.

No. It should get close to 30 million lifetime; however, I am fairly confident that Microsoft is already planning how they are going to phase it out of production to make way for their next console which will most likely be announced at next Spring's GDC and scheduled for release in November of 2010 the fact that they are already saying the 360 isn't going to finish first this gen is another early indication (like their announcement a few months ago that they were thinking about their next console's method of content distribution) that they are getting ready to move on.

My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

I think it'll have gotten into the mid-30s by 2010, at which point Microsoft will release the successor to the 360. At that point, anything additional is moot.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

100 Million at the minimum. By then the 360 will have destroyed the Wii and PS3 and it will be the only console on the market! (for the 360 hopefuls)

It will be phased out in 2010 for the next xbox, sales will drop like a brick (just like when MS dropped the first xbox) but everyone will be happy cause Halo 4 will be released with the 720 (for everyone else)

The 360 will most likely be around 25 million at the end of 2008, and you expect it to only sell 5 million more units over the next two years?  Have you even considered that prediction at all: Microsoft is virtually assured to crush the PS3 this holiday season due to a better lineup (again) and much, much better prices.

Expect the 360 to be at 30 million units around this time next year and expect it to reach about 45 million units total.  The PS3 might reach that many units as well if Sony makes some good pricing moves.

You expect the 360 to sell 1.25 million units per month for the rest of the year? Microsoft doesn't even make that many 360s. The holidays will give something of a boost, to be sure, but not enough to push the average that high.

About 40 sounds good to me. Mind you, that would already mean a big success.

In my opinion,I belive the the PS3 is going to win this gen in the end. I think only two of the 360's big games for the rest of this year are going to live up to the hype: Fallout 3 (due to exclusive dlc but prettier graphics on the PS3) and Gears of War 2 (and I don't mean that it will live up to the hype by being the greatest game of all time like its fans want to proclaim it will but that it will get a AAA review score from IGN probably at least a 9.4 but no higher than a 9.7). Halo Wars might or might not be able to get as high as a 9.0 at IGN; however, since it is an rts rather than a shooter the question pops up will it be as popular as the Bungie games? How have other rts games faired on 360? Most 360 fans don't seem as into more complex games as they are shooters. Look at how the jrpgs have fared saleswise. Also, I think Fable 2 like NG II and Too Human will be a disappointment to most fans review wise. Left 4 Dead will be better on PC.

In the meantime, the PS3 will continue to improve its sales with games like Little Big Planet, Resistance 2 (I believe it will get a review score almost as high as Gears of War 2 at IGN), Mirror's Edge (with exclusive dlc on the PS3), a superior version of the new Prince of Persia, and more. The PS3's sales are up almost 80% percent from this time last year while both 360 and the Wii's ( to a lesser extent at this time) are down, and the PS3 is just starting to take off.
