Gamasutra has an interview with Matt Corso, creative director for Conduit:

Most interesting detail to me was that he says they have a team of only 30 people working on the game right now. With 30 programmers working for 18 months, I'd guess the development cost for this game to be only about $5 million. Of course the number of people working on the project probably fluctuates up and down, so take my guess with a massive chunk of salt.

He also says that they're working the All-Seeing Eye into multiplayer gameplay somehow. I wasn't expecting that, so I'm curious as to what uses the widget will have in this context.

Hmm well the All-Seeing Eye reveals invisible enemies so maybe a power-up that makes you invisible, or maybe reveals a door to a secret sniper spot, there's a few ideas I have of what it could be, sounds interesting and I'm going to finish reading this interview.

I have already made my decision and you can't change it. I'm buying this game.

Composer behind Transformers, Resident Evil: Extinction scores The Conduit

Hoffman Estates, IL - September 9, 2008 - High Voltage Software, Inc., one of the world’s largest independent developers, today officially announced that their stunning first-person action shooter, The Conduit, has been scored by famed composer Diego Stocco.

Diego Stocco’s music sound design credits include movies such as Transformers, Resident Evil: Extinction, Crank, Jumper, Lady in the Water, and videogame soundtracks for Justice League Heroes and SoulCalibur IV. His commercial credits include Nokia, Samsung, Panasonic, BMW and General Motors.

“Working with Diego was such an enjoyment,” said Michael Metz, Audio/Visual Director at High Voltage Software. “When I heard the first track he made for The Conduit, I literally got the chills, it was exactly the mood and mix of sound design and music we were looking for.”

“The Conduit unveils incredible scenarios during the game, with a richness in terms of details and action that is very inspiring for a composer,” said Stocco. “I’m very excited to be part of The Conduit; it’s the kind of project that makes me push the envelope in terms of sound creativity.”

The Conduit won several awards following its appearance and demonstration at E3 2008. IGN.com gave it three awards, including Best Shooter Game of E3 2008 (Wii), Best Graphics Technology of E3 2008 (Wii), and Best Overall Wii Game of E3 2008. GameTrailers.com also gave it Best Wii Game of E3 2008.

The Conduit is scheduled for release in Q1 2009 exclusively for the Nintendo Wii.

Good news thanks for helping out the thread, just one more reason people should check out The Conduit, they keep putting in the effort and the gamers will benefit from this.

Just a couple of points with links coming up later but some things that were cleared up in a newer interview.

  • Assuring everyone there is NO SPLITSCREEN the quote that everyone took to mean there was splitscreen was used out of context.
  • With their engine and grpahics pushing the Wii like it is splitscreen is impossible as it's too taxing on the power of the Wii, which could hurt chances of splitscreen in The Conduit 2.
  • The lead designer contradicted the original word about the Quantum 3 engine, which stated the engine would be licensed out as middleware and would help developers with graphics, the lead designer stated "we're no middleware company and have no plans to license out the engine at this time"  though they have said people have contacted them to license the engine.  Hopefully that may be a miscommunication with different parts of the studio or just his opinion cause that would be a great help to Wii development for third parties and a way to help kill shovelware.

It should be possible for them to make Conduit (or Conduit 2) have splitscreen. They just have to make their engine scaleable so that they can drop down the detail.

But because they have limited time and manpower, they're focusing their tech development on getting as much detail out of the hardware as they can, rather than developing scaleability for splitscreen. It's just a question of priorities.

So if Conduit sells well and people keep clamoring for splitscreen, I think we might see it in Conduit 2.

Game should be interesting, people will have to bear in mind its the first of a possible series and will be modest in many regards. We already know it will only be about 8-10 hours in length single player.
