PS2 at 129.99 with similar graphics as the wii and a much larger library can compete with the wii and its made by Sony.

Why are you comparing the greatest system to the wii?

I guess what I was trying to say in my OP is that if price wars erupted this generation (so as to take the PS2 out of it), Nintendo has much more room to drop its price than Sony and Microsoft.
People point to the Xbox 360's recent price drop of the Arcade model to below the Wii in Japan and America. However, that same move in Europe did not seem to make much of a difference.
Plus, assuming the PS3 and Xbox 360 are at break even at their current pricepoint on hardware. To get their models to $250, it would cost $50 (Core X360) or $150 (Elite X360 or PS3) per unit. Over 10M units, that is $500M to $1500M (or $1.5B).
Meanwhile, the Wii can take a page out of the other console critic's playbook and move the goal posts -- dropping $50 or $100.

BS, If you think price has nothing to do with it then you are absurd. For most price is ALWAYS a consideration, don't be naive...
OT: No neither sony or ms will be able to compete with N on price... but didn't we all know this? Just like a Ferrari can't compete in price with a Miata...

And for M$ making money with Windows, they propably aren't going to support the gaming division for long, if it can't turn profit, since M$ knows it has pretty rough ride ahead in the next 5-10 years, so they need the money they have and M$ needs to keep its investors happy by making a lot of profit.
I kinda agree with that.

I've said this countless times, but than again most of them don't know how it is to pay bills and etc...
Their counter argument always come to the 360, or the Gamecube.

Of course price matters but that's not the only reason as to why the Wii is selling. People don't have $250 to throw away any time they want. They buy it for games. It's just more people saw more value in the PS2 than the GC, and people now see more value in the Wii over the HD consoles. |

Not if the wii is $199 or lower by then |
Even if the Wii is still $249 next year, and PS3 drops down to $199, Wii will still sell more. Just like the extra features, the focus on technology and the traditional games haven't helped PS3 or 360, neither will a lower price. To put it simply, a lower price will not make Wii Sports, Wii Fit or Mario Kart Wii run on a PS3. Nintendo's advantage with Wii is their ability to continually make these new game experiences which have wide appeal and no competition.

But those are opposite points. Sure, Nintendo could win a hypothetical price war. But there will be no price war, and in fact, Nintendo's ability to add value instead of dropping price is the very reason Wii is selling so well already. Iwata has basically said outright that Nintendo believes a business model that relies on price drops is broken. So how could "more room to drop price" be their big advantage?
"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."
Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

That's exactly my "Wii is the new C=64" argument.
What is wild is that it hasn't had to lower it's pricepoint at all yet, and will very likely go 2+ years at the original pricepoint and sold out to boot!
(I was orignally going to wait till Spring '07 befoe buying a Wii, as Nintendo usually price drop mid the following year post -launch; then I saw the E3 2006 line-ups...)
