Just thinking with the price cut will any ps2 owners go for the 360?

You would have to admit it is looking more and more like a good deal.

Anyway maybe some members may have a view on it?

But ps2 owners will be wanting WiFi and a HD right?

I was a PS2 owner and I bought a 360.

I was a PS2 owner and bought a 360 and a Wii, and will buy a PS3.

This whole move to get "PS2" owners is so dumb.

And it just might, if they haven't already gone Wii. I think I read somewhere, as of like 3 months ago only 18% of PS2 owners have upgraded to PS3. So there's plenty of room for other consoles to swoop in on that market.

I believe most of them that wanted anything other than the Sony Brand have already done so.

Make that 3.

I was a devout Sony fan till this gen. Hence, PSX, PS2, the Xbox 360/Wii for me as well.

As part of its market research, the NPD Group periodically releases comprehensive reports on consumer demographics. Its latest report on videogame consumers, Games Segmentation 2008, refines the methodology used in an Games Segmentation II from may 2007. We asked the NPD Group if they could elaborate on what they knew about PlayStation 2 owners and here is what they told us:

• 10% of PlayStation 2 owners also own a PlayStation 3

• 18% of PlayStation 2 owners also own an Xbox 360

• 19% of PlayStation 2 owners also own a Nintendo Wii

These groups are most certainly not distinct. That is, there are probably Xbox 360 owners counted in the 18% who are also Wii owners and also counted in the 19%, and so forth.

However, this does appear to suggest that current PlayStation 2 owners are almost twice as likely to be Wii owners than PlayStation 3 owners. That, in itself, is quite interesting and suggests that the owners of the 42.5 million PS2 systems sold in the United States could prefer the Wii over Sony's newer system.

There are, no doubt caveats which make this a slightly imperfect measure of where PlayStation 2 owners are going. For example, many PlayStation 2 owners upgrading to a PlayStation 3 may take advantage of hardware trade-in deals at retail outlets like GameStop, especially since many PlayStation 3 models will play PlayStation 2 games. The NPD survey would not record those upgraded consumers as current PlayStation 2 owners, skewing the results."
