But think about the poor people who can't afford to buy a DVD they would like to see... or a CD.. or a Game..? Now they can enjoy these "other Media" too.. Why is that different from enoying a book?

 

I think the overall Western push towards qwasi-socialism started in Europe and is only now starting to spread to America; it is not at all fully accepted and may in fact be rejected. What may now seem second nature in Europe is still a topic of debate in America.

Thats freaking sad. Libraries are places of learning. Where people can find educational books and documents. This is really sad.

Hah wait a minute you live in Ohio Stickball? We don't live in the same County do we?

Can't think of many other Libraries around here that would be confident enough to put their money in that stuff.

Although if it is a different one around here i can definitly see why your pissed.

This is the point of why libraries are doing this.  People want this service and they greatly appreciate it.  Everytime I would go into the library over the summer, the place would be jumping with activity.  I was legitimately surprised how many people came to the library on such a regular basis.  And a lot of people who were checking out movies were checking out books too.

Why should a library simply exist, use taxpayer money, and provide no services that people actually want?  Obviously, they shouldn't do everything people would like them to do, but I think it is great the libraries are expanding the services they offer.  Would you rather we paid for libraries but barely anyone got an actual use out of them?  That seems even more wasteful to me.

 

People don't want free books?  My library is always full with people reading.

Besides if it's the library system I think it is... via my googling skills...

It has a history of failed Library levies and really could use that money for other things.

wth is the point of a library encouraging people to come in by saying you can rent a wii? Huh? theyll take it home with them and not go bak to the library until their times up (if ever)

One of the main reasons why Libraries rent DvD's is to bring people into the Library.

Also one of the main reasons why cities still keep libraries is because of Tax's.

The more funding a city gets the better.

If more people go into a Library for what ever reason it shows up in the records as people use the public facility and in turn will bring more funding.

Now funding isn't set to say Example: 50,000 = Library, 50,000 = Parks, 50,000 = Roads, etc:  it set as 1 budget: a large sum if you will, but the records add up and the more money the better.

Much like road work on roads in a city but you notice that there was nothing wrong with the road to begin with.

But if the City doesn't use the money from the past budget they will not get the same funding as the time before.

That budget is controlled by the State.  The city needs to spend it's budget in order to show the city they need more funding.




Side Note:

Having a larger Fiction DvD collection as opposed to other DvD's doesn't show the US becoming retarded, but shows the ignorance of the people that believe the US is retarded because of the size of a fiction movie selection.
