Why do u guys think the price cut wont be that big?

Because they don't want it to. Thats the best answer I can give you.

I don'tthink your answer counts for much, as you don't really have a position beyond opinion.

The precedent so far worldwide is that the pricecuts to lowest "nexgen" console hasn't taken the 360 out of third place, and the 20-GB Pro System sale this past summer was not a a pricecut that changed the relative standing of the 360.

I hope the 360 sells well, but given all the actual facts so far, it's more for something to give some points why it would sell well...

(strongly looking at an Arcade unit myself this autumn...)

The price cut will be big. There is some anecdotal information in the MS forums about it.

Give it a few days for retail outlet musings to pop up. IMO, I think that this price cut, getting the X360 below $200, will be a slow, but impressive burn when it comes to sales.

Oh, here's a few quotes for you:

When I first heard about this price drop, I figured it would only affect sales for a little while and then die off. Most console buyers, or maybe I should say "potential" console buyers, don't troll tech news websites like this one, and probably know nothing about this price drop, right?

Well, then I saw it on CNN and on the local Chicago news. Then yesterday on my way out of work, I heard something really mind blowing. The customer service department at my office, which consists of 5 people, 4 of which are over the age of 50, was talking about how the Xbox 360 was now going to be $199. Are these people all gamers? Nope. Not one of them is. But they all have kids and grandkids who want consoles this Christmas. And the Arcade will be the cheapest one out there this year.

Too late, tons already sold at Futureshop in here in Canada. In fact in their online store there is only 47 left, and the sale just started this morning!

Y'know you make a dumbass comment and then it comes biting you in the ass like that...it's things like this that make life so beautiful.

So just got back from work. We sold 4 Arcades today (sold out now) and one Pro.

We haven't sold an Xbox 360 Arcade in months.

That's all I've seen thus far.

Can you give me a source? That link doesn't work.

Woops. It's from NeoGAF. The first one is from VGC, one of our users.

Here is that link to FutureShop

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

There's a difference between honest opionion and blatently just making stuff up to suit your ends.

It looks like you can't tell the difference.

Just in case you haven't worked it out. Your posts are the latter.

I went to the Futureshop site and it says the sale will end 9/11/08!

The Arcade is a ridiculously gimped model, even at $199.

It can play games, go online... What more do you want? I use an Arcade and its great.

What more can I want? Being able to download stuff from Live and being able to install games to reduce loading times.

I don't need that stuff and more than 50% of people don't care. For those people the Arcade is an excellent choice.

Why is it that the people who have a major problem with the Arcade SKU are PS3 fans?

Tease.

"Why is it that the people who have a major problem with a gamer's individual preferences are 360 fans?"

See, I can make false fanboyish general statments too.

Well as long as people don't put the proviso "for me" to make the statement "The Arcade is rediculously gimped for me" it comes off as a retarded general statement.

Do you want me to do a head count on the recent Arcade price cut threads for people with a known PS3 bias saying that the arcade model is gimped, noone wants an Arcade, etc etc?

Tease.

i think this price cut will do more than the one in july. 3 of my friends were waiting for this cut to pick up their 360.

I expect 200K in sales for the first week of the price cut....then levelling off at least 20K higher than usual

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

The more interesting pondering to do is what would Microsofts move be if the price cut doesn't work? I mean if it works the response from Sony is clear, they can answer with a price cut of their own. But if the price cut do not bring the xbox360 sales solidly above the PS3 in the US, I am not sure what Microsoft could possible try next, apart from maybe buying EA and making all their games Xbox360 only.

The reality is that Microsoft desperately need this price cut to get their sales surging. They are already losing credibility with 3rd party devs and a weak response to this price cut could be devastating in the long run. When cross platform titles like Madden sells 550,047 on the PS3 in the US and 879,634 on the Xbox360, even though the Xbox360 has over twice as many consoles out there then it is a clear sign of trouble in paradise for Microsoft.
