Forums - Nintendo - So Samba de Amigo is fun. Like Guitar Hero fun.

I went to the Gearbox Victory Party tonight (loads of fun) and while I didn't get any cool free stuff (other than drinks) and I ended up giving away my VIP pass to a buddy so he could play see stuff I did get to play Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway and Samba de Amiga.

BiA:HH is cool but I didn't spend a lot of time with it. It was loud and I imagine watching me play would be boring because I like to take time to get to know controls and I'm terrible at the game (it looked pretty incredible, the water effect running off your helmet in the rain was just awesome). What I did spend time with was Samba de Amigo and it was a lot of fun.

At first glance it seems pretty lame and looks really easy. Notes seem to move slowly across the screen and since there are only six positions, 3 for each hand, I thought it looked easy. Of course I remember thinking the same thing the first time I saw Guitar Hero before I actually gave it a try.

Anyways, I gave the game a go and I decided to try it on hard since it looked so easy. It took about 30 seconds to get the hang of the motions but once I figured it out it was really cool and wasn't nearly as easy as it looked!

Each player has something with this setup

--o---o--
-o--x--o-
--o---o--

The notes come out of the middle where the x is and move towards the o's. If it moves towards the high left o, you shake the nunchuck up, if the note moves to the middle right o you shake the Wiimote out and to the middle (I assume you shake it out at least, it worked for me), and so on. Every so often the middle isreplaced by a figure that randomly shows you a pose. You have to quickly recognize the pose and immitate it (it's a little harder than it sounds). There are also times when you see a long string of red and that's when you shake the remote or nunchuck. It works really well.

I watched someone play the hardest difficulty and it was insane! The notes moved a lot faster, were strung together more, and you even had two notes one the same side so you you have to shake the Wiimote upper right and nunchuck middle right or something like that.

I wasn't that excited about this game and thought it was going to be another Battle of the Bands or Band Mashup (whatever that game was called) but I was very pleasantly surprised.

It looks like Guitar Hero may have even more competition, I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick this game up!

I've never played the original actually. I would recommend getting this game though, especially if you have friends to play with.

It's fun in the same way Guitar Hero is fun. If you're going to play by yourself, you're either playing to get a perfect/high score or you're going to get bored in an afternoon. If you're going to playing with friends this game will rock.

this is the only music game that i want

I saw him on stage, he was more annoying mainly because it was just loud when I was trying to talk to people (have a bunch of friends at Gearbox and then some friends from Austin came down and were there).

Sounds very fun,I am also waiting for this game, but I'm not sure if I will get it day 1,but if it is as fun as you say I might get it day 1.

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

I'll be getting Guitar Hero over this. I'm a rock fiend. Not so much a spanish music fiend.
