Forums - Nintendo - what do you think of the future of Nintendo?

Do you think nintendo ,as well as 3rd patry devolopers, are making the leap to have a balance of casual themed and more adult themed titles*on the wii, which would boost sales by stealing the diffrent market of gamers? Or do you think it is a bad choice?

I think they made that leap in the GC times, but no-one took any notice.

nintendos future is looking great

iiiiiiiiitttttttttts grrrrrrrreaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!

Considering Nintendo did not develop even one of the games on your list (but is publishing one) I would have to say no. Clearly third parties are filling in the gap though.

Are you implying Nintendo are bringing back the Nintendo Cereal System?

Well most of those games you mentioned aren't even made by Nintendo. I beleive Nintendo is trying to expand the video game market to audiences that wouldn't play traditional games. They aren't switching to this new market just giving it attention. It doesn't affect how much attention they give the more traditional market as we see many 1st party games that cater this more traditional market released, and quite a few to come. So basically they are trying to target everybody, which is good, because different people like different type of games. Also I think the reasons why we aren't seeing too many first party titles the second half of this year are 1 THey aren't ready yet, and 2 Nintendo wants Third Parties to do good too. Though they don't want them to gain too much control as they have with many consoles. I see the Wii taking the route of the DS though, and will be known for excellent 1st and a good amount of good 3rd party support. Either way I like the Nintendo of today even better than the Nintendo of previous generations despite what people might say. The future looks very bright imo.

Nintendo has always had a balance of casual and core games, it's just that some fanboys are too blind to see that. >_> There are over 40 M rated games on the GCN.

Anyway, I don't think Nintendo has anything to worry about with the future. They're doing a good thing by not releasing all their first party games this holiday season so that third party developers could release some of their games and enjoy sales.

Nintendo ufortenately lost points with a lot of hardcores by lauching a system that wasn´t a great leap into the future, like most were expecting this gen, but on the other hand captured a market that the ps2 had and didn´t know. If you think about it the 120 mln owners weren´t all hardcore or even core, they have a good share of casual gamming in the ps2. This people were captured by the atractiveness of the wii remote. Not only them, but a lot of people that never thought of playing games too. the problem was that by doing this, they were branded as casual and a console for kids. This image is not what the wii designers wanted, they wanted the image to be "the substitute for ps2", a game for everybody, gamers and non-gamers. I read a interview by a Nintendo top (don´t ask were) and he said just that: That those who said wii was casual would be surprised.
That shows to me a little bitterness for not being able to capture all the market he was aiming for. The meaning is that the causal image that wii got was not intended. And the sad news is this image won´t fade easily, if it ever does.

So don´t be surprised if the wii get some serious games in the future, this is part of image changing marketing.
