Forums - Sony - Sony Doesn't Seem Concerned By Xbox 360 Price Cuts

Sony has no reason to fear the price cuts. They have games that will be very successful across all regions this winter. The PS3 is already outselling the 360 at a much higher price point, and if Europe is any indication the US and Japanese price cuts will be ineffective after a short period of time.

MS only has Fable 2, Gears 2, Banjo to tout this winter. Sony has Little Big Planet, Resistance 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, NBA 09 The Inside, Naruto, Socom, White Knight Chronicals, Wipeout, and many many more coming exclusive to PS3.

Sony wasn't concerned about the Wii either and we all know how that turned out...

Are you saying the Wii is the reason the expensive HD PS3 has sold, say, slower than PS2?  LOL.

The thing about price cuts are that they cannot be reversed. It should be the last line of defense in terms of raising sales. Sony has been doing fine at the cost of entry they're at with the PS3, there's really no need to follow suit at this moment.

I have been thinking about that too. I was thinking, what if Sony has a slimmer PS3 and a Price drop in Japan this winter and next year around the launch of Killzone?

It way out there but I think it could be possible.

To those that will shoot this down with Sony can't drop the price and launch a slim in Japan because it will effect NA and EU sales. Remeber this is the time of year when people buy with no knowledge of their perchase. The millions of people that buy PS3 and 360 in America this winter are not board posters, these people have no clue of a differant SKU in Japan. All they know is what they see on the shelfs of the home town store.

It is wise for Sony not to get into a spending war with MS, whether it is price cuts or third party exclusives. They know they can't win that kind of fight. The big difference between Nintendo / Sony and MS is that Nintendo / Sony are in the business because they want to be in the gaming business, while MS is in there to eventually get into a monopoly position where they can fix prices like they do with OS and Office applications. That's why MS will lose so much money, is they know if they establish a monopoly - they can easily make it up from the consumers.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

It's kind of amazing how few consumers in Others and Japan are showing any desire to own a 360 considering the console's price in those regions.  360 has had a great sales run in the US...I, too, wonder what will happen if the NA price cuts don't succeed where the price cuts overseas failed.
