Forums - Gaming Discussion - i recon ps3 will have a price cut before the end of the year

As TheTruthHurts! so elequently put. You reckon wrong.

Price-cuts are the absolute last resorts for game console publishers as it is a move that permanantly reduces profit by significant margins. As such, absolutely NO company will ever resort to a price-cut unless they feel they need to to keep their product competative. Sony needed a price-cut last year and Microsoft needed a price-cut this holiday season, however, Sony doesn't currently need a price-cut since it is outselling the 360 by a significant margin and has plenty of games and features to keep it competative this holiday season.

Why would they announce a new bundle at a set price to drop it in mere weeks they already added more value to the SKUs by adding larger drives across the board.

It completely depends on sales. End of thread.

i recon not! they will just release 25 new types of sku's daily to count the days till christmas (December 1-25th) oh and a special thanksgiving and Halloween sku. Who knows they might even make an election themed sku :)

no price cuts for PS3 until august 2009

I think PS3 won't see a price cut till early 2009.

Rubbish, you don't know that Sony could'nt win a price war for sure. Think of it this way, MS is near too there bottom price for there 360, so has very little room left for price cuts. Where as PS3 has loads of room for price cuts once there costs come down further.

There's know need too cut PS3 yet as it's outselling 360 worldwide on weekly basis. Sony will wait and see if the 360's recent price cuts effect PS3 sales if any. And act when needed.

Sony recently said they can't produce enough PS3s to meet demand.  Considering that, it wouldn't make sense for them to have a price cut, why would they leave all that money on the table?

"Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer has told German news outlet Welt Online that he does not expect the R&D cash spend on PS3 to be recouped soon.

Stringer has mentioned that the consumers are purchasing PS3’s faster than Sony can produce them.

“We currently have a production bottleneck with the PlayStation 3″
