Killzone 1 is weak and bland for a first person shooter =(

Even playing it over 80 inches on a projector didn't help.

AUDIO

Voice acting: Pretty good. Only issue is that for some reason the voices completely dissapear if you turn too much around. And you can sometimes hear through walls .. in a weird way. Not that you can't hear through walls. But it might be louder facing the wall (a lot) then facing the door to the room. (For instance)

There are a lot of atmospheric sounds but i think it's lacking a little something .... perhaps more background music ? .. or more sounds ? i'm not entirely sure.. they can get a little annoying but it's really a none issue.

The voice acting of main characters isn't too bad, but the repeating of the same dialog lines every few seconds was annoying as hell.

Also, what's lacking is the feeling that there's things going on around you. This is a giant offensive from the hellghast and after you take out the guys infront of you, it's suddenly quiet.

I though killzone was a generic shooter , but KZ2 is looking pretty good.

Yeah, same thoughts here, but when you know what you're getting into, I have to say it was a good generic shooter! =P

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

Killzone was a game held back by the ps2. They tried too much and accomplished too little due to aging hardware.

However there were some gameplay problems, not related to hardware. The main problem was that battles were on rails. Where Halo 2 was employing open battles, Killzone mostly had set trenches and paths. It becomes annoying after a few hours...

But this game is crasy good compaired to what i had imagined..

And while i agree with most you said actually (for once) i think that they did accomplish a lot on the ps2. Now i haven't played it on a ps2 so i wouldn't know if it runs slower, but i've only had a few slow downs even though it runs on a emulator (60gig pal)

If you look at other ps2 shooters (mohaa lol.. various others and even cod) then this game really did manage to push some limits.. and they've created a engaging gameplay which only has a few minor issues (audio wise and gamplay wise) .. and besides the fact that it is.. as you said running on rails (atleast most of the time.. ) the game is actually really good.

I remember the multiplayer aspect of the game was one of the best bits. Give it ago, even if you don't have anyone to play with, the bots are fun enough.

from what i read i think it deserves 8 out 10
can u rate the game plz?

Metacritic has it at 70.

Major publications -

1UP - 80

IGN - 75

Gamepro - 70

Gamespot - 69

The linear gameplay and being stuck in the trenches was a huge dealbreaker for me. Its kinda like being chained to a fence while all the kids play with a ball on the field. So I agree with the 70 average...

What does the topic author think?

I was playing Killzone a month or so ago. It hadn't aged well, imo.

Just wait. After a few more hours, the constant "Scatta! GRENADE!" will get quite old. :P

My main complaints were the constant texture pop-in, the pretty bad AI, and the repetitive voice acting in-game.

Try this with the AI: Stay as far away as possible, and just take potshots at them. Most of the time they'll never even notice you, and you can get through the area completely unharmed provided you have enough ammo. Though they do force you into close encounters quite often.

As for the somewhat small, linear levels, that was one of IGN's main complaints about the game. You were supposed to be in this massive war, yet the entire time you felt like there was barely even a battle going on. As you've seen from the videos, the sequel is looking to rectify this, and it's looking to do it quite well. :P

The artstyle of the original was great, though, and it was one of the few console FPSes I ever finished. I love the Helghast. Really, the first Killzone had loads of potential, and it seems they're finally realizing that potential with the ps3's hardware and the financial backing of Sony, and that's why I'm so pumped for the sequel.
