Forums - General - microwaving food is not the same as cooking

OK... why the hell should anyone be even interested in this? I barely use the microwave anyways...

Yes that's right. but how do you feel about my tactics when it comes to cooking?

I cook all my meals in the proper way for the week in one go and freeze them. However throughout the week I defrost them in the microwave when i fancy one.

now I would argue that is real cooking even though a microwave is used.

My ex-girlfriend used to do that, although not to that extent (ie not make ALL the weeks meals in one go)

Well it's usually 3 meals worth of bolognese in one saucepan, 3 meals worth of lamb rogan josh in another and whatever else I feel like cooking

"To cook" has become something of a synonym for "to make food".

Don't like it? Join the people who think "awesome" and "awful" should still mean the same thing, or complain about people not knowing the original difference between "uninterested" and "disinterested". =P

What if I throw a pizza in a oven, is it cooking then?

Cooking is an art. You can not possible define it. I seriously doubt the cavemen added peppers and onions to their boar meat, but no one denies them being the earliest primate chefs. A microwave is simply a heat source, but that doesn't mean you're not cooking something.

I think people are confusing
cookery: The art or practice of preparing food.
and
cooking: To prepare (food) for eating by applying heat.
