Forums - Gaming - How did RE 2 on N64 compare to RE 2 on the PS1?

The N64 version is notable due to the compression techniques that the developers were forced to use in order to fit two CD-ROMs worth of data onto a single 64MB cartridge.
WoW.

It has better controls (instead of tank controls, you actually move in the direction you point the analog stick), slightly better graphics, but lower quality FMVs. It has some extras over the other versions, but it's also missing a couple extras I think.

If you are a big fan of RE2, I would say it's worth it.

This intrigues me. It was the controls that prevented me from getting in to the RE games originally.

Yea, it's a nice addition in the port.  I think it's the "first-person controls" mentioned in the wikipedia article DMeisterJ quoted.

it also has a bunch of bonus files that connect it to REZero, no extreme battle mode, but 4th survivor and tofu are both still in it

Oh, I stand corrected. From memory, it was considered a "very good" port.

An incredible port if you think that the cart was only 64MB.

It does show how much space things like FMV takes up.

If RE2 had to use 2CDs it must have been more than 700MB... and yet the game fit onto a 64MB cartridge.

The Audio quality was better IMO on the PSone, but the rest was superior on the N64 :)
