Forums - Microsoft - 360 price cuts might be needed to combat "stagnant demand"

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=196354

if you can answer honestly, out of the ps3 and 360

which of the 2 consoles is the more in demand worldwide and will always be the console thats more in demand.

you see im begining to wonder on why microsoft is choosing to lower the price of its console running into 2008, when facts tell us thats its much cheaper than ps3 anyway!

surely the 360 with a greater Quantity of titles and a cheaper much cheaper price point, one would have expected the 360 to be barreling away to the consumers en-mass

in actual fact its tracking lower than ps3 this year, with a lower price point, that sounds like a bit of a sour grape to me. it would be funny if microsoft raised thier prices higher than ps3 which might make it track higher than ps3 this year.

i predict microsoft to lower the prices of thier consoles to stay in competing line with ps3, it may even shift a few more consoles than ps3 in fall 2008.

but the question is, will 360 stay in competing line if microsoft doesnt lower its prices? you have to bear in mind that 360 is much cheaper than ps3 anyway! is it imperitive that microsoft lower its prices to match or even outsell a much higher priced console the ps3. and why would that be?

i predict both consoles will do well, but ps3 will do better even at its current price point. i may be wrong but thats my opinion.

ps3 has some brilliant up coming games that are suited to everyone, it has built in almost everything you need and i truly belive that ps3 will do very very well this fall, in all quarters

just thought id make an opinion thread before i head to work.

btw anybody who flames or goes off topic is an automatic crow-eater

I don't think anyone really believes that the PS3 has, or will have less demand than the 360.

Even at almost double the price the PS3 is outselling the 360 in all regions, and that's not because the PS3 is better but it has the PlayStation brand.

I think that the 360 is a worthy competitor, but one that was gonna lose from the beginning.

Of course, we as gamers shouldn't care about their sales since Microsoft and the 3rd parties keep flooding the 360 with amazing titles.

No, the PS3 console is better no doubt, better hardware at least. That plus the Playstation Brand is probably to blame for the 360's under perfoming sales.

Now many regard their libraries of games as equal as well, and the forseable future for most says that the PS3 holds more crucial exclusives. These are the things that drive the industry towards the PS3.

imo ps3 is better, it has all the games on it that i want. i have 0 games on 360 at the mo, all the best ones are the old ones like gears and forza, but there finished with now, no point in re buying them again.

which amazing titles do you mention because all the ones this yer recived mediocre scores.

all i can see on the shelfs that i want at the moment is gaiden 2 and eternal sonata.

MS has done one hell of a good job this generation securing lots of games, from all genres, for the 360.

But they´re still up against 12 years of a brand that has sold more than 100 million systems twice.

And while Sony´s big missteps at the beginning of this generation has cost them a lot of marketshare, the brand still seems to retain enough power to "win" the HD system "battle" worldwide.

Guess Microsoft is willing to do everything to beat Sony this time.

SONY has the brand nothing else. Microsoft has the games, and that matters for us the GAMERS....

Cosumers weigh cost and benefit when making decisions.  If a $400 PS3 has more demand than a $300 XBox 360, its because more consumers see a better benefit to cost ratio with the PS# (be it brand, blueray, games, etc.)

By lowering the price of Microsofts' console its gives XBox 360 a better cost benefit analysis in the eyes of the consumer.

Think about it this way, would you pick a XBox 360 up for $300? What about $200, what about $100, what about $50?  See, by lowering the price you make your product look more attractive, being cheaper than the competitor doesnt mean that pricing doesnt matter anymore.

The X360 is in a later stage of its life in comparison to the PS3 and Wii. X360 has been on the market for around three years. Its competitors have only been on market for two years. X360 needs to reduce its price to stay in the game. X360 has a large library with more games on the way. But as a product ages the demand for the product decreases if it remains at the same price. Price must be reduced as the performance of the product increases over time. X360 I believe has around 2 years left on the market, before we see the next MS console. Maybe XBox 3000 could be the name of MS new console. Time will reveal all.
By November 2010 new MS console should be launched with all the bells and whistles. It will be launched in NA and Europe. I would not count on a Japanese launch of the next MS console.
