I just was trying to be a voice of reason, not wanting people to get their hopes up, especially since it's now being outsold by a fricking nunchuck. I mean, those things must be flying off shelves, eh?

One of the biggest problems with Amazon (and most retailers) is there sales data on its own is not very good for generalizations ... The only retailers that really work well are large established retailers that (generally) do not offer promotions to their customers (Walmart).

Its obvious that over the past couple of weeks the Amazon sales have disproportionately favoured the PS3 being that the PS3 outsold the Wii on Amazon (and crushed the XBox 360) while, based on VGChartz data, the Wii outsold the PS3 by a wide margin (and the PS3 and XBox 360 were close). Simply outselling the XBox 360 on Amazon is not necessarily a sign that the PS3 would have outsold the XBox 360 in general. Even the PS3 selling better on Amazon than it did before the price cut is not necessarily a sign that the PS3 is selling better in general; from my very limited understanding, Amazon is running a promotion where you get the Blu-Ray remote and an additional Blu-Ray movie with your PS3 which may make it a better place to buy it than every other online retailer (meaning sales where shifted to Amazon rather than actually increased).

Essentially, the best way to track the PS3's increased performance would be to watch NPD mothly data (or vgchartz data) ...

Reality? What is so damn far from reality in numbers? If I will tell you that this week amazon moved 3k units I mean only that.  No magic. No high hopes. Just numbers.

amazon is a good example of whats happening. Really look my 3 local Walmarts all have Wiis but no PS3s. Amazon is selling tons of PS3s no one can deny this.

kber81, be honest. Although you may want to simply track sales numbers, and I think it would be nice to be able to reliably track sales from a website such as Amazon, this thread isn't about that. This is an Amazon watch thread on positions. If Amazon was reliable, we'd have people watching the Wii SKU and the 360 SKU's. But it's been shown time and time and time again that it just isn't reliable, especially for counting sales.

But, since my posts are probably branding me as anti-sony or pro-360 or pro-wii, I'll probably just sit back and watch those clambering to make Amazon mean something significant.

Lair just crept into the top 100 at #98. I think Amazon has the wrong date listed though, as the playstation website says Aug. 14th, not the 7th.

How much does Amazon count for? Wal-mart counts 25% on video game sales how much does Amazon?

 However sales data is a better example of whats happening and currently it doesnt show the PS3 outselling the Wii in NA. 

Also I think most of us agree that anecdotal evidence - whether for or against any console - isnt worth that much.
