Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 to sell more FFXIII’s than PS3?

Only time will tell though, I have the feeling that the PS3 version of the game will out sale 360s' version. The PS3 is on the rise and gaining alot of momentum. Regardless, I'd love to see a damn release date for the game than anything else!!

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Guidelines to understanding my train of thought:

  • THE METAL GEAR SOLID FRANCHISE IS THE BEST THING TO HIT THE PLANET SINCE THE PS3!! THUS, MGS FRANCHISE >> SLICED-BREAD.
  • Solid Snake shall and well always shove 1up mushrooms up Mario's ass.
  • Solid Snake shall and well always decimate Master Chief with a flurry of rocket launchers, shotgun rounds, and a 20 minute monologue.

What everyone usually overlooks in these discussions is that the demographics for both consoles are not the same. First the typical 360 consumer on average is a more aggressive purchaser. Second the 360 is a role playing console. More so now then before the Final Fantasy announcement.

To be very plain if we are talking a huge title, and one in a predominantly 360 genre we should expect the adoption rate for the title to be much higher on the 360 then on the PS3. Further more one market is entirely irrelevant thus far this generation, and that market would be Japan. Japan has a real hard on for portable gaming. The market seems downright chilly for the genre on consoles. Even Dragon Quest has yet to drag itself over a million units sold total on the regions dominant platform.

I have never understood the logic that somehow the PS3 is going to move a lot of role playing games. When it has yet to ever sell more then a half a million units even in its limited library. I also do not understand the logic that says the typical PS3 owner even wants to play this genre anyway. I know it was used as a sword in fanboy debates, but the blade even then seemed rusty. Were the typical PS3 owner truly interested in this genre they would have not bought a PS3 especially a year after launch. Once the 360 had over a dozen titles compared to all of three the PS3 had. Even now it is questionable whether a genre fan should pick up a PS3. While there is ample incentive for them to pick up a 360.

This goes beyond install bases. This goes to the core of the demographics. Were we talking about a fantastic first person shooter with a wonderful online component being for both platforms. There would be no debate the 360 would sell more, because the 360 install base adores that genre. I am not entirely sure what it is that sets the PS3 user base off, but it is a totally different beast.

I see no reason for the supposition that the PS3 will sell more thirteen beyond stupid fanboy lust. There needs to be some actual proof that this console can move this genre. The average owner isn't going to just buy this title, because they are expected to.

I feel your outlook on the situation is a bit warped. PS1 and PS2 dominated the JRPG scene, unrivaled. Even though the PS3 initialy has no JRPGs many consumers anticipate there arrivals. The 360 thought they could get the jump on this one seeing as they came out first, yet it proved to no avail. No JRPG on the 360 has sold well. This is because the fanbase is virtually non existent on it. The only one to have any kind of success to date is TOV and still no 1mill sales. The JRPG fanbase is chained to the PS brand. Even if 360 has some of the goodies, as long as Sony promises some in the future, then they will always have this fanbase. Enchanted arms is JRPG that came out at a later date for PS3 from 360. It sold better on PS3 (even though, terrible game). If the game had came out at the same time the PS3 version would have sold a lot more. All the other RPGs are WRPGs, MS has this one in the bag. Mass Effect is pretty successful.

It isn't April Fools yet...

There's a good chance it'll outsell the PS3 version in North America.
But the edge will go to the PS3 version in Europe and majority of the sales will come from Japan, making the PS3 version most sold.

I thought this was quite obvious really.

@dodece

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL for saying Japan isn't important when it comes to FF. That is so ridiculous. FFXIII is exclusive to PS3 in Japan. That gives it at least 2M sales right there.

Dodece, I gave dozens of reasons and the best you can give are "demographics" and "LULZ FANBOY LUST?" Enchanted Arms sold better on the PS3 than the 360 despite the game only having data for the Americas and the PS3 having a far lower userbase there. When you include data for Japan and PAL (if it was released in PAL), then the difference might be even larger.

We've seen plenty of big series on the Playstation 1 and 2 transition to the PS3 and see huge sales, even if they've sold more on the 360 (Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, Call of Duty, Need for Speed, etc.). You can argue that the PS3 version won't sell as much as some people believe, but don't try to convince me or anyone else that the 360 version will sell better. You know it won't and so do I.

Not really the best example. What RPGs do PS3 owners have available besides Enchanted Arms? What RPGs do 360 owners have to choose from besides Enchanted Arms? Do I think FFXIII on the 360 will outsell the PS3 version? Nope. The game will win because of Japan. In the US, the 360 version has a good chance of trumping the PS3 game but that won't make up for the million plus gap that Japanese exclusivity creates.

Edit:

@Tombi123

You do realize that the PS3 is at just over 2 million units old in Japan right. I highly doubt FFXIII will hit 2 million units sold in Japan.

Being a moderator is no license to act like an ass. I provided sound reasoning and logic. While you are spouting fanboy bullshit. You can disagree with my logic by all means that is what reasonable debate is all about. However when you insult me, and call me a liar that is when you cross a line. I demand an apology sir, or next time you insult me in a forum. I am going to be less then civil. Grow the fuck up.

devil may cry 4 is a perfect example of how sales will pan out. also, consider the people who bought a ps3 before the announcement for this game, the fact that it's exclusive to the ps3 in it's strongest market, which has already bitten a chunk out of the sales (even if it was multiplat in japan, ps3 would still spank it there). also consider the fact that the differences in sales is slowly closing, and is likely to be very close by the time this game is released for the 360.

this article is the definition of fail.

OT: This will never, ever happen, one because its exclusive in Japan (PS3's install base should be past 3 million by the time its released), the PS3 will be WAY past the 360 in others, and it will be considerably closer in NA.

The PS3 version should win by a lofty ~2 million. Give or take a million.

As in go buy us some coffee.

If you believe in your reasoning so much then why not just make a bet to shut up all the people that disagrees with you? Lets say something like 6 months or a full year of avatar and sig control?

I mean that's what this topic comes down to right? it's either 360 FF13 sales > PS3 FF13 sales or PS3 FF13 sales > 360 FF13 sales. Lets see how much more you believe in your own reasoning past the logic of the mass majority, you must be seeing something that everyone isn't.
