| greenmedic88 said: It was only a matter of time since Wii Fit sales have been restricted by production output rather than by tapering demand or frontloaded sales. It should continue to sell similar to Wii Play; not at the same attach rate, but in the sense that many new buyers of the Wii, particularly the non-traditional gamers, will probably be interested in buying it as well. I don't see this as a result of either potential gamers expressing good faith in trying to adopt a more healthy lifestyle (they would rather go back to playing Brawl or Kart), or typical consumers looking to buy a Wii/Wii Fit so they can exercise at home with it, since there are endless alternatives available. But, this is the new Blue Ocean Nintendo; get used to it. Wii Sports Resort will follow suit next year, undoubtedly becoming the best selling Wii game to be released in 2009. |
Everyone I know with Wii Fit, including me (or rather my Wife as she made the purchase) is buying it as a curious gimic and as yet another 'this time I'll keep up the routine' fittness idea.
I wouldn't even class this as a game (and I don't mean that in a negative way). Like say brain training on the DS (the only other 'game' my Wife has every bought in her entire life) this is something else with appeal way above that of your average game. I expect Wii Fit to eventually top out (unless interest dies over time) way beyond most true videogames this generation. There is no point comparing it to SMG, Mario Kart or Halo. It represents something else to the majority of the public, was advertised as such (none of the ads I saw made it look like a game) and represents the kind of left field move that Nintendo can't seem to get wrong with the DS/Wii combination.
That there are infinetly better ways to actually get properly fit (as even Nintendo themselves ironically admit) is neither here nor there. I'm still running around a park for zero cost and our Wii Fit is still mainly gathering dust since my Wife got bored of it - but that doesn't change the fact she shelled out for it in the first place.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
