Doesn't that put it in line with the American price cut?
From their conversion rate 19,800yen = $183 USD

This is the reason the Wii was priced and remains at $250.

What? The Wii was priced at $250 to force the 360 and PS3 to get price cuts? I think Wii was priced at $250 becuase the tech is cheaper, and Nintendo is able to sell the hardware at a profit for $250 right out of the gate.
How in the hell will MS profit at such a cheap price? and wont Nintendo just cut their price as well?
@loy310 - it shouldn't hurt M$ much -- maybe an extra 1000 or 2000 units sold at loss in Japan...
Also Nintendo is under no pressure to drop its price while it continues to exceed sales expectations. So until Nintendo's sales drop do not expect a price drop.
No, the Wii has better percieved demand with ONE standard price. It confuses average when there are several skus and "core" gamers don't help when they see price drops coming. The weeks before the drop usually show declinig HW sales.
I can't believe I actually had to explain any of that.
The Wii being priced at $250 had NOTHING to do with PS360 price cuts. How would Nintendo know they would cut prices anyways?

Price cut.
In Japan.
It's already less than the PS3, so this won't change the PS3 vs. 360.
