Well since some M$ studios are supporting the DS EX Pinata? and DK racing they wouldn't do it this time around maybe next with the 720.
"Like you know"
Zune w/ XNA? MSFT will not likely enter the handheld race b/c of Ninty has a monopoly and they are a software corporation.

115 million DS and PSP owners say hi....
Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

Yeah it's a rumor but maybe Microsoft might end up making one (beside the Zune). XBOX180 anybody?

I think that would be unrealistic and dangerous, i dont think there is enough space for a 3rd handheld. DS kicks ass, PSP is selling alright at the moment, both have very good libraries i just dont see what MS could offer.
Plus it would cost them so much to make this handheld a new brand just like Xbox which brought them losses.
The R&D behind making a handheld that would ultimately be quite different technologically to the PSP and DS would no doubt be huge.
You must then also factor in that MS do not have the first party clout the Nintendo and Sony do to keep the handheld alive.
Microsofts Shane Kim:
"I'm very happy we didn't get into it, because launching a handheld platform is like launching another Xbox 360. You have to be fully committed, as an organisation, from a resource standpoint, to doing that.
Frankly we've got a lot on our plate with Xbox 360 and Xbox Live. We don't have any experience in that space. Our content assets don't naturally lend themselves to driving success in that particular market. So, we're happy to let Sony and Nintendo slog it out."
