I think it has a change.
The best selling console game (other than Wii Sports, it's bundled, and is thus guaranteed to beat MKWii, thus it's not counted) is San Andreas at 8.26M
Mario Kart Wii has sold 2.78M there, after 20 weeks.
It's currently on an 8 week streak of increasing sales, and should keep selling almost ~ 100K for almost close to christmas. Say 90K/week, for the next 10 weeks (up untill mid-november). That's 900K.
Looking at last year's sales, I reckon it should sell ~ 800K for christmas, if not more - it has a shot at a million.
Anyway, this would leave it at ~ 4.5M by 09.
Compared to San Andreas, which by the end of its first year had 4.8M, it should be fairly even.
Yes, San Andreas had only been out for 10 weeks untill the end of the year, but that doesn't really matter. It averaged slightly below 70K/week for the month of January, which MKWii shouldn't be very far away from.
So this means that SA will, in week 11-15 from launch, sell slightly above MKWii 38-42 weeks after launch (probably), with SA having a 250-500K lead.
Do you think MKWii can do it? Honestly, I think it does. Quality wise I don't wish it did, but I'm not going to let that blind me, hopefully you won't.
