Forums - Sony - The bottleneck Sony is in might be REALLY good for gamers....

I am just hoping the pressure to make money dosent make Sony and MS change there model were they have to make money on both the console and the Games. I like having a high end gaming system

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

Microsoft will have the same problem in september. It costs 235 to make a 360 and they will sell it for 200...

It's getting really old how many people are bunching their panties up over Eight Days..the game was more than likely going to be horrible anyway. You have enough games that are almost identical to it.

QUIT CRYING. If that's all you're going to do, sell your PS3 and buy an XBOX 360. I'd rather play with gamers when I get on PSN, not whiners.

Seriously, in the last 8 years when has Sony London ever proven that they can create a very solid and notable action/adventure game? On the other hand, how many times have they shown that they can create good, financially successful casual games?

Answer to question 1: NEVER. Being upset over the cancellations of the Getaway and Eight Days is like getting your panties in a bunch over some Midway game getting cancelled. It was going to be average at best, so why do you care???

Answer to question 2: Many times. All the Eyetoy games plus all the Singstar games. Sure they're not popular here in the US of A, but they're pretty big in Europe, Sony's biggest market.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Now that Sony is relying on their software sales almost entirely to gain profit in their gaming division, they're going to be pressured to work on their games even more. At least, that's what I believe.

What does the rest of vgchartz think about this?

As opposed to...?

Sony has always depended more on software than hardware for profit.

As has Nintendo, Microsoft and Sega (and likely all before it)

Even though Nintendo is making masses of profit on Wii and DS hardware, they still make more on software.

Sony will put their effort into the big games. They have to, considering their current position

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

They were able to make profit off of their harware last gen though.  They're having to break even now on it, so it's possible that Sony is really going to up the ante on their software division; more so than the last two previous gens.

Which in turn is good for us gamers.

However you see, Sony's hardware profit is miniscule AFAIK.

Going off memory and to put that statement into perspective, I seem to recall reading somewhere that Nintendo made more money off Gamecube hardware sales than Sony did off PS2 hardware sales despite the massive difference in total sales.  While I could be misremembering, that is a staggering accomplishment.

That is very probably across the GCs lifespan... because the PS2 wasn't profitable hardware wise until 2003.

However the GC is no longer taking profit, the PS2 is.... so although we can't figure it out without Sony and Nintendo releasing more detailed info, I bet the PS2 hardware profit is creeping up on GC now, if not past it.

Unless you meant per console, in which case I have even less idea. And it still doesn't lessen the accoplishment considering GC hardware made more money in the same time frame.

So, you're agreeing with me right?  Just making sure that wasn't aimed at me, cuz that's basically what I meant=P

No, I meant total.  Of course, without a link to an article I may have just imagined that so I'm not 100% sure.

As far as comparisons go, they should be compared based on the number of years on the market.  If you want to compare them against one another on years one was on the market while the other wasn't, we should be comparing product lines instead which would bring the Wii and PS3 into the equation.  I'm sure you can imagine how that would end.

Sony's up coming games won't lose to 360.
it keeps getting better.
