Now that Sony is relying on their software sales almost entirely to gain profit in their gaming division, they're going to be pressured to work on their games even more. At least, that's what I believe.

What does the rest of vgchartz think about this?

As opposed to...?

Sony has always depended more on software than hardware for profit.

They were able to make profit off of their harware last gen though. They're having to break even now on it, so it's possible that Sony is really going to up the ante on their software division; more so than the last two previous gens.

Which in turn is good for us gamers.

However you see, Sony's hardware profit is miniscule AFAIK.

Going off memory and to put that statement into perspective, I seem to recall reading somewhere that Nintendo made more money off Gamecube hardware sales than Sony did off PS2 hardware sales despite the massive difference in total sales. While I could be misremembering, that is a staggering accomplishment.

That is very probably across the GCs lifespan... because the PS2 wasn't profitable hardware wise until 2003.

However the GC is no longer taking profit, the PS2 is.... so although we can't figure it out without Sony and Nintendo releasing more detailed info, I bet the PS2 hardware profit is creeping up on GC now, if not past it.

Unless you meant per console, in which case I have even less idea. And it still doesn't lessen the accoplishment considering GC hardware made more money in the same time frame.
