I'd be fine if it reached 50%, but I hope it doesn't get too much higher than that. I want third parties to make plenty of games for both the Wii and pc/ps3/360, rather than focusing primarily on one side.

Of course, I believe that many PC-centric western devs will never make the jump, because they aren't going to stop making PC games.

I'll bet anything with anyone that the Wii won't reach 50% by Christmas. It will be at least 2 million units short.

Wii has the potential to outsell both combined by millions in November and December.

making sequels of sequels and spin-offs and just go in the way of innovation, like Nintendo did.

That right there is The reason why a 50% share of the console market is still meaningless as anything other than a number.

Many seem to be under the impression that once it breaks the magical 50%+ number, 3rd party developers are suddenly going to start seeing the Wii as the leading development platform, thus giving the console all the biggest 3rd party games of this console generation.

But they are ignoring the reality that PC is the core development platform, sharing most non PC specific genres (RTS, MMORPG, etc.) with the similar Xbox and PS3 platforms.

Development starts with the most capable hardware and is ported down to the least powerful. The Wii will never change that.

Either way, I agree with BFJ in saying 50% is not going to happen in 2008 just based upon the production numbers alone, even assuming 100% sell through for the Wii.

For the record, NTDOY is the only game related stock I keep in my portfolio. I have great faith in the company's performance, but I'm still realistic about what the numbers mean.

I do think it will hit %50 after Christmas. It's just a hunch, mainly stemming from their unusually low sales for the past several weeks. I get the feeling they are stockpiling more than I think they are.

A week where the Wii wins by a couple dozen thousand makes them go up .1%. Imagine the Wii outselling the PS360 combo by 1.2 million. If it doesn't make it there by Christmas, it will by the end of the fiscal year.

This was the most predictable thread of the week.

Also, I don't think I've heard any Wii fan say that 50% is the magical number that third parties will start developing only for the Wii. It's just a big slap in the face to the ps3 and xbox360, and quite a feat for the system that was supposed to ruin Nintendo. =)

But considering the reality distortion field some seem to be living in, you might actually be able to find someone here who would take that bet.
