Tons of games have memorable graphics and tons have memorable music. It just depends on how well it's done.
That said, this theme from Mario Galaxy ALWAYS brings a tear of joy to my eye:

The graphics ,if good, enhances the experience greatly, but it does not stay with the gamer for long after he/she beats the game. music, on the other hand, has the lasting impact. SMB is the best possible example of that.
Eg. Are the visuals of Crysis more memorable than the music of SMG?

Music.
For example. I wasn't a huge fan of Ocarina of time... at least not as big as everyone else... but that main Ocarina theme is always stuck in my head.
I can't find it right now... the real happy one.
Edit: Saira's song.

i'm probably the furthest thing from a ninty fan, but i can tell you right now music makes the game. despite graphical updates, new features, original katamari> other katamari before evyone gets on my case about the "furthest thing from a ninty fan" i don't mean i hate ninty, i mean i am apathetic to it.

graphics IMO but the right music can make any game stand out.

It's probably because a lot of the Nintendo fans are older. They know what it's like rockin out to some kickass 8bit and 16 bit midis.
Like these....
Oddly as musical technology has increased the general soundtrack of the average game has gone down in quality as they can just throw in some uninspired music.

sorry to disagree with you "itashi", but the op specifically asked what makes a game more memerable. imho (and probably factually as well) music makes for longer more persistant memories, just like smells. Remember, our video memory works only in frames, whereas our olfactory and audition memory recognition persist in entirety.

I can't hum graphics later or put them on my iPod or try to learn to play them on guitar or piano.
