hope those guys who still buy it will enjoy it - doesn't look like a bad game at all, although it seems to have some faults

but one thing really got to me "The voice acting offers only English dubbing" .. ugh... to me that would be a hard pill to swallow (judging by the videos I've seen of the english version)

The english dub only is a pretty big negative for me, but I pre-ordered anyway. The comments about how linear it is and the whiny persona of the main character make me think "Oh god, not Tidus and FFX and that pile of crap again", but the rest of his commentary about the story and gameplay were pretty positive.

This tidbit - "In fact, there are 18 characters you'll be micromanaging during the course of this fairly brief adventure" - is a huge plus for me, since I do in fact enjoy the managing aspect of my characters, and I like large character casts (like FFVI, which had an awesomely huge cast).

I didn't see any real complaints about combat or gameplay, mostly just story/game length, and since party management is a plus for me and not a negative, I don't think I'll regret my preorder :)

Yes, but the characters in FFVI were fleshed out.  One of the negatives of the IU review was that some of the characters didn't fell very important in the story

Not all the FFVI characters were as fleshed out as the core 10-12 chars or so.  Umaro? Gau? Gogo? Mog?

Aren't recruiting those characters optional?  The characters that you get no matter what you do need to be fleshed out though

i dont care what a site or magazine gives a game, if i like the genre and what i read about it and how it plays, then i'll get the game. anyways i am still gonna get the game.

well let this be a lessen to certain ppl. whenever a ps3 game gets a score like this they claim doom - flop - mediocre

just because a reviewer or faulty metacritic scores makes a game appear lesser off, doesnt mean ppl wont enjoy that game. the best review is your own review and what u want from thegame, not what others tell u

i wont be getting THIS, instead i will later on pick up vesparia - disgea - and valkyrie

i belive many ppl will like this game, its an exclusive but so far, no exeptional rpg has been released. theres only last remnant and valkyrere left this year that could be the 1st hit of an rpg game

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

The score is a little disappointing. I trust IGN the most, but we'll see if other reviewers would give it the same score. The review seems to be very informative and spot on, talks about the faults and all the major things.

There doesn't seem to be any complaints of the battle other than not being able to pause and frame rate issues. The game length is alright, but I do hope the sidequests aren't as boring as he puts it. Story seems to be so-so according to the review. The 18 character thing isn't a problem, but if some of them aren't important to the story, why put them there? At least make them tag along for a while like FFXII with Larsa. In SMT: Nocturne, you can have over 50 different demons, but not at the same time of course. I think the max is 12 or something. They are optional of course, but each have their own weakness and strength. This game is all about strategy. You have to choose your party wisely and perform the right moves. You decide which one to keep, part with or fuse. The possibilities are endless. Anways, I'll wait for more reviews and user feedback.

I think Disgaea 3 and Vesperia are both "hits" to the core jrpg/srpg fans, and imo, probably the first worthy examples of the genre in the current generation(besides Radiant Dawn, which was snubbed by critics).

I think it is just as ignorant claiming Disgaea "flopped" as it is claiming Vesperia "flopped." Both games got in the upper possibility of what could be expected of them from modern reviewers. It's unlikely that any jrpg save for Final Fantasy, will end up with a AAA rating on a home console, considering the Wii and the PS3 has only managed about 5 a piece since they launched, reviewers aren't particularly fond of the genre, and the bar has been set so high, with games like Gears, Galaxy, Bioshock, GTAIV, and MGS4.

How epic would a jrpg have to be, to rank higher than Bioshock?

Yes, to the people who awaited them, Disgaea 3 and Vesperia are both hits, and not only did they not dissapoint, they pleasantly surprised, and are hailed, in Vesperia's case, as the best game in the vast and popular Tales series.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

The reviewers are fond of the genre.  It's just that American-made games have set the bar so high that it's making some people think JRPGs are an outdated genre

I have a huge feeling it will do better on other review sites, though. IMO, Tales of Vesperia is all we need. It sure is all I need! :)

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I don't buy that. I think reviewers usually attempt to award innovation, and the very nature of the genre lies in tradition. Final Fantasy tries to buck this traditional mold, with mixed results from fans(See FFXII) yet, it is rewarded heavily for it, by critics.

As for WRPGs, I'd rather replay Disgaea than Mass Effect, and I have Oblivion, but I wouldn't consider it AAA. The Witcher, on the otherhand, I feel is a AAA RPG, yet the critics don't agree with me, so who knows.

Yea all the xbox only RPGs this year sucks so far. Mab fable will be good but i  didnt like the last one.

Ima get banjo this fall on 360 and thats really it. ill be getting no wii games and lots of DS games and ps3 games.

Tales is getting quite good reviews.

Lost Odyssey got decent reviews for the most part as well.

Kind of a blanket statement just to say they "all suck" doncha think??????

This is only one site (well one of the biggest) but it's about what I expected of the game from what I saw.

Note they said ~35 hours with all the side quests.  So thats about 10-15 extra from the main story.  I'll take a wait and see, too many good games coming out to be paying full price for the "decent" ones.

It's dno, he's been crossposting every bit of 360 FUD and negative opinion on the web.
