I want Retro working on a new IP. We need some new IP....badly.

Farm out the remakes to quality studios like Factor

Hey, Hey, Hey!  Metroid Prime was superb.  If anyone can bring back Yokoi's franchises, it should be them.  Also Lair was abysmal.

Factor 5 has blamed Sony for almost all that was wrong with Lair.  Sony's TRC for Lair tied Factor 5's hands pretty tightly.  I know they are a much better studio than Lair suggests.

They also blamed ghosts and everything else under the sun. When they release a game that is up to their old standards I will believe it was any one of the dozens of excuses they threw out after Lair was released rather than their own incompetence.

By their own thing, I meant new IP. Of course EAD staff helped them out with the Prime games, but as the series moved along they gradually got more freedom and independence.

Now if they were creating a new IP, of course Nintendo would have to aprove the idea and they'd send support to help them I'm sure, but Retro would be the ones getting most of the credit for the game, as they should.

Nintendo needs new IPs, and we know for a fact that Retro is working on more than one game right now. Retro would be THE perfect divisision to develop new IPs, especially for the western audience. So the odds are pretty high at least one game is a new IP for the core gamer but all of this resides on how much power Retro gets from Nintendo, as they are ulitimately in charge of what's done and not done, like I said before.

I would prefer Factor 5 to make Rogue Squadron 4

Totally! ^^

And to everyone saying Factor 5 should make a new Star Fox... I say let Miyamoto's team handle the series from now on. After Assault and Command, they REALLY need to get back to Andross. I wouldn't like to see Darth Vader as the final boss!

OT: I think Retro Studios should handle Kid Icarus. I'm sure they could make a very impressive game that will stick to what Kid Icarus is all about (platforms, dungeons, flying level, yay)!

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Agreed  but I I think there is also a chance of them reviving a dead franchise or failed one.Somehow Geist comes into mind since Miyamoto really wants to do a first person shooter and they have by far the most experience in that  over all other nintendo's internal developers.

I love fighting games !!! Come on challenge me !

Does this mean you're discounting all their previous quality titles for the sake of one?

You do know why they said ghosts, don't you?  Look up Murphy's Law.

Factor 5, but I'd like to see other stuff from Retro. Those guys are amazing.

I know exactly why they threw out their laundry list of excuses after the game was released. They blamed everything under the sun because they were appalled at the quality of the game and needed to try and save soem sort of face. I don't discount all their previous titles, but I sure as hell am not going to get excited over their next announcement. When a company sends me the message that their games could suck on a massive level I pay attention.

Also, their work from years past almost certainly involved a number of people who are no longer employed there. That is just the way things work with jobs. Everyone eventually moves on so you need to keep replacing the staff. The most recent game is more likely to be the result of the current employees where the earlier work will have involved some people who can no longer help for better or worse.

Tough call.

On one hand you have Factor 5, who can't handle doing a new IP (Lair) but when you give them the mythos, the universe and let them make the game work as a whole you get gold (Rogue Squadron and Battle for Naboo).

On the other, you have retro studios, who are amazing at increasing dimensions in games by 1. I would love to see them do something new, but I feel Kid Icarus deserves to be done right in 3D.

So I go with Retro.

I could be wrong but I suspect why Lair and Haze both ended up being below average games in spite of having very good developers has to do with the companies grossly underestimating the ammount of work required to produce a PS3 game of that scale, seeing multiple delays and an ballooning budget which annoyed their publisher, and being dumped on the market in an incomplete form. If I am correct, and both companies 'learned their lesson' then I would expect their next projects to be a noticeable improvement regardless of the platform they're delivered on; because if they're producing a Wii game they will have an understanding of the challenges of development from their work on previous generation games, and if they're working on an XBox 360/PS3 game they're not as likely to underestimate their budget on the scale they did with their first PS3 games.

Oh, well, in Kid Icarus'case, Retro, definitely.
