Forums - Sony - Why all the Sony hate?

The PS3 uses too much energy. Something I don't hear often but is kind of important to me. I'm watching live earth now and then, people being warned about being careful with using energy and we in Holland are being warned about this issue all the time on TV. Most PS3 owners, using also a large Plasma or a full HD TV which are eating energy like madness. A huge reason why I still "don't" own a PS3. I personally own a 26 inch Sony Bravia LCD TV which is using less power then any other TV and have it on power saving high, plus at least this TV has a stand by button. I'm using less power now then with my older, simple Triniton TV. For that... hail to Sony ;)

So I don't hate Sony, I'm just not fond of the PS3 for numbers of reason, like the one above.

People hate the leaders usually ,Plus theres a FUD campaign against it promoted by MS ....and having many millions of Nintendo and Xbox users upset by the PS2 crushing our consoles (Xbox and Cube ) that makes a good number of people willing to spread FUD and hate through the internet and the forums .....its not the best of the situations for Sony to keep its image in this medium .Of course Sony has done its shares of errors ,namely the pricing of the console and some arrogant declaration some one year and something before .The directives seem to have shut their corporate mouths  something and once the price drops the reasons for the hate should slowly fade ....if fanboys and MS dont keep fueling it thats it .

In any case the leader always receives a lot of hate of ones behind ....if Wii wins as PS2 did we will see in some years all this hate toward Nintendo .Its law of life .

By the way Wiigirl ,the PS3 doesnt consume that much power .Its maximum capability is very high in consumption but the test run on it show that it actually consumes a lot less power than expected (less that a PC or the X360 ,although more than the Wii ) .

I am upset over several thing sony has done with the PS3 launch in EU. The number one thing is that it almost cost 900 USD with tax in Sweden, as the number one brand a move like that could destroy the step gaiming have done during the PS2 era to become mainstream.

But is the price really a reason to be upset of Sony? You may not be able to afford a Mercedes, but there are other people who are. I really like the PS3 for shooting high with its specifications, it's quite a steal here in the Netherlands. All this technology for just 600 Euro.

I think there's no real reason to be truly upset with Sony regarding the PS3's price point. They still sell the PS2 for people who don't care about these extra's, but even the much cheaper PS2 is just a luxury device. Nobody demands you to buy them.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

I'm all for the Playstation and Sony, and will be a fan til the end. I myself ask the same question as to why ppl do hate it. Most ppl who hate it, have a ps2. So what gives. Is it because ppl hate the ps1 and ps2 that made their hatred against the ps3. I think not!

My guess is purely price. I don't understand how ppl love the ps2 (considering most of the world has one) and hate the ps3 - esp when they don't have one. The games are coming, blue ray is awesome, games look amazing, psn is getting there, multi-player is free, internet and other fetures, psp etc This grilling Tank is a major piece of hardware entertainment.

My prediction is that once a the price comes down enuf for most ppl, Sony will gain so much ground. Maybe fanboys are scared of that. Last 12 yrs Sony has shown the goods and is still proven it's worth. The Storm is coming 2008 :D brace yourselves it's going to be a Sony Year :D

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

I think the reason that there is so much hate on this site is because there are many Nintendo fanboys, who hate Sony for no real reason

I also think that Sony receive alot of criticism because they are planning for the future, not for now.

I know what the back of the console says: 380Watts against 45Watts for my WII and only 39Watts for my PS2, both Japanese. The WII only uses about 18 watts during normal gameplay while the PS3 uses over 100 watts during normal gameplay, those were numerous of tests results which I've checked on the Internet and that's to me still a huge difference. I'm trying to save energy not by consuming more.

Sony received the European Environment Award for their energy saving televisions, like the one I have, I don't think they will earn the price for their console :( Too bad...

I don't even have kids myself and worry about these issues... why not the ones "with" kids.

@ WiiGirl76

So, do you write your messages using a PC? I think most people here do and those consume more electricity than a PS3. Using a PC to help science with Folding could be considered a waste of electricity as the PS3 achieves multiple better results while using less electricity (turn off your TV if you want to save more electricity).

The Wii is a good console but it's not for everyone. For those with a small budget the PS2 may be a better option as the console is cheaper, has an enormous games library and many of these games are available at budget prices.

I think the PS3 is a better option for those who own an expensive HDTV (though PS3 games look fine on a PAL TV as well), being able to upscale PS2 games to HD resolution, being able to play Blu-Ray HD movies and some great 720p/1080p games with impressive games line-up.

I think you missed my point, heck I don't own a PS2 so why should I care if the PS3 cost a lot? Because of:

as the number one brand a move like that could destroy the step gaiming have done during the PS2 era to become mainstream.

I don't want gaiming to be luxury item, I want it to be mainstream. I want a consol in each household. Yes PS2 is still sold, but even if we are talking about 1000 SEK lower price per year it will take sony 2011 to get it down to the same price. I think somewhere between now and then PS2 will be droped.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!
