So, do you write your messages using a PC? I think most people here do and those consume more electricity than a PS3. Using a PC to help science with Folding could be considered a waste of electricity as the PS3 achieves multiple better results while using less electricity (turn off your TV if you want to save more electricity).
The Wii is a good console but it's not for everyone. For those with a small budget the PS2 may be a better option as the console is cheaper, has an enormous games library and many of these games are available at budget prices.
I think the PS3 is a better option for those who own an expensive HDTV (though PS3 games look fine on a PAL TV as well), being able to upscale PS2 games to HD resolution, being able to play Blu-Ray HD movies and some great 720p/1080p games with impressive games line-up.
