Forums - Sony - White Knight Chronicles: Some Level 5 Greatness...

Looking good, if the gameplay is anything near as fun as it looks then I'm sold!

I like Level 5's gameplay (particularity in DC 1/2), but the lack of a consistent story usually in me quitting the game somewhere near the end.

I've heard that changed with Jeanne D'Arc, however, and I hope they do something similar for WKC. Tbh, the lacking stories were the main thing keeping them from sitting amongst the best of the best for me. :P

The stories in Level 5's games improved suddenly and no one is sure why?  Jeanne d'Arc has a good story, Professor Layton has a good story and according to neogaf's review, even Inazuma Eleven has a decent story(at the same time they even acknowledged that it had the basic formula for a shonen manga).  Hopefully, WKC is also part of this trend.

They said in an interview I read that they understodd that they've had problems with the storytelling in previous games and are trying to fix it.

there one weakness has been the story so if they improve with White Knight then its going be a AAA game like Dark Cloud 2

I know what you mean dude. I am a Level 5 fan big time, but it is mainly becuase they know how to make a kick ass JRPG battle system. Their stories pretty much sucked tho. Dark Cloud 2 was not that bad though I must admit, It warrented the tag of AA JRPG. The turn around was definitely Jeanne D'Arc (sadly not as many as I had hoped had purchased it). That game blew my minda as well as others, it was just so thought evoking with it's twist of French/English history. Jeanne was kick ass and the Tactical fighting system was on point. The only thing I wished it had was multiplayer, if it had that I bet it would have sold ALOT.

Hopefully WKC will continue this trend

Most RPG developers don't even try to write a good story but Level 5 are actually trying(and recently, have been succeeding) improving the storytelling in their games.  WKC will be AAA at this rate.

If they keep this storytelling thing up, they really will become the next Square-Enix(or for S-E haters, the next Squaresoft)

I'm all for Jrpg's and Level 5 and all, but the combat looks really sluggish.
And the aerial attacks just makes the sluggish movement look even worse..

Though on the bright side, I'm digging the art style.
The giant combat looks interesting, and doesn't look as slow as the normal combat. Probably because I expected giants to be slow and lumbering.
And the Hippo-horse looks cool as hell.

That shouldn't be suprising since the game was very early in development last year.  Even Level 5 acknowledged that the animations had to be improved.  The combat also seemed shallow but that was only because it was in it's most basic state

Ah, that's good to know.
