Forums - Sony - LBP may not be the casual-core bridge sony wants it to be.

I think most of the people that are against it are slowly comming around, which is a start. Think only on the media for a sec. What have they all been saying? Are they all pumped? What negatives have been said? Where does LBP sit on all their charts? Where has it been ranked at the recent game shows?

All these questions have answers that are very, very positive and I think most are aware of this too. So, why are there still many doubters? -well it seams as it gets closer and closer there are less and less to nit pick about LBP and most of the nit pickers then only focuss on the level creator, saying it's not for CG. What about the huge stand-a-lone game with over 50 levels and short stories, [which i would assume that they make like short, famous movies] with boss battles at the end of each?

I have said this before and I will say it again, LBP without the level editor would be a success and a killer game alone. So, isn't much more in this case better?

@scottie

U got it spot on! It won't attract non gamers, but will attract casual gamers indeed.

Oh, and I am a hardcore gamer and I will be buying LBP day 1. Also to note, I've got over 40 PSN mates [only 6 from this site] and only 2 are unsure about LBP, cause they never new about it. All people will know come lauch though, as SONY has only pushed 1 other game as close to LBP and that was MGS4.

Off Topic: Careful.. you might get a talking bird in here flaming you for having your own opinions...

On Topic: My favorite thing about LBP is that its Sony's biggest game this fall and yet its a game that doesn't need the power of Cell and that could of been done on any other next gen system..

I find that ironic

you are right, Sony HAS showed that they can make games that are AAA WITHOUT using the cell's full specs. Just imagine what will happen when they do get a game that uses the FULL specs? Oh that day will be one to behold in deed.....

Damn straight! It will be an amazing day when that happens!

oh and what game released by Sony is AAA on the PS3?

Oh, don't throw that flamebait gebx. You're smarter than that. (at least I think you are) OT: That's why you have pre-loaded levels. And you can also mess around while you are creating the level. Throw on the fact that you completely made up the time frame that you think it will take to make a level.

I don't think the media focusing on the game is a good indicator of how "casuals" will react to the game, since the people previewing these games before us are pretty much the "hardcore."

Here's an interesting thought: take a look at all the biggest "casual" games of this gen (all by Nintendo).  Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Play, Mario Kart Wii, Nintendogs, Brain Age, etc.  One thing they all have in common is reviewers, or the media, either were not very hyped for these games, or simply did not like them (check review scores).  However, the "casuals" still ate it all up.

Anyway, my prediction is that the game will go on to be a moderate success - selling around 3-5 million, and not selling any more consoles than MGS4 did. Not bad at all, but certainly not a turning point of the console wars that some preach it to be.  I'm sure I could be wrong, as this game seems like a hard one to predict, but that's my guess.  Of course I'm going to buy the game either way, but again, people on this website aren't exactly casual.

Well with all the bashing of the game the OP has done of course he will come n here to defend it! How dare anyone not immediatly recognize it to be the best game ever thought of.

Sorry, I posted this in the wee hours of the morning here, so I haven't been able to read it until I actually woke up this morning.

Anyway to the bolded part: What LBP bashing have I done on these forums? This is easily the best PS3 game that's coming out this year (and probably for a while), what I was questioning was where it stood in the eyes of Sony and the PS3 fans in terms of getting sales (which I bolded in my OP so that people would at least read that part before posting, obviously alot of you didn't, thanks to those who did, notably makingmusic and axumblade).

The only PS3 games I've done any bashing of are Killzone 2 and Uncharted.

@Jo21: You obviously didn't read the OP (entirely), like I said in OP, THE SPANNER IN MY WORKS is that stages can obviously be downloaded. My point was, if people don't take the time to try and make maps themselves (which I think'll be awesome) doesn't that take out half the game?

Also, to those who said it comes packed in with 50 maps, I didn't know that, but it doesn't exactly change things. Multiplayer games bring out map packs in order to keep things fresh (I just recently bought the CoD4 one), so it would seem unlikely that the packed-in 50 stages will last very long (I imagine they'll be like a level in the 2D Mario's, maybe slightly longer).

EDIT: Okay, for those of you that posted without reading the OP, this topic isn't about how good LBP will be (I think it'll be great) so don't start calling it LBP hate, because it's not. What this topic is about, is given the nature of the game and the way it's played, will it really be the casual hit sony wants it to be?

I hope it isn't that easy.

@ gebx

It's ok. I'll forgive you.

I get tired of reading about people saying Little Big Planet won't or may not live up to the hype because you "have to" build levels. You don't have to build levels. Little Big Planet has it's own set of levels that you'll play through just like any linear game. One of the game's creators said this at E3 as he demonstrated the game. So in short, casual players CAN just pick up and play, and aren't made to do anything other than that, unless they want to. Also, the hardcore players who want to create their own levels will, and casual players can download and play them too, adding more gameplay to the game. This is why I think Little Big Planet will succeed at being a bridge between casual and hardcore gamers.

And where exactly did you hear that LBP doesn't/isn't going to use the Cell Processor? I kind of doubt that's reliable unless you can provide a reliable source to prove that. Even though it's not a hardcore action game, LBP certainly looks to me like it takes advantage of the PS3's capabilities, from what I've seen.

Just watch this video:

And imagine what you'd be thinking while creating this stuff. Things like:

"Wow, that was cool how that fell over."

"Holy crap! Catapult!"

"lol, this fish is flopping all over the place."

Really, it's the physics system that makes this game so damn fun.

There's no doubt the game looks really fun.  We're just speculating on the sales.  I think they will be good, not great.  And I really don't think it will push hardware.

Did you read the OP?  This entire thread focuses on the accessibility of the game, and has nothing to do with sales.  The OP said that "casuals" probably won't be willing to put in the effort to create a good level, and I pointed out that it will take little effort at all, as the actual creating will be as fun, if not more fun, than the end result.

That video made it look like you can do a lot of things but too make cool things isn't easy. Most user-created level will suck but because the world is large, there will me a lot of awesome levels.
