Forums - Gaming - Killzone 2 Multiplayer Previews!! INSANE HYPE. Glowing Previews! HUGE!!

Since the last thread created turned into a fanboy war, this thread is going to be DEDICATED TO A DISCUSSION OF MULTIPLAYER.  There will be NO talks of comparing graphics to other titles, comparing system specs, or trying to derail with insults.

FOREWARD (highly suggested to watch Multiplayer trailer before reading these): At Lepzieg, some lucky journalists got their hands on Killzone 2's multiplayer. What follows is impressions from some of the most cynical sites (1up, Kotaku, and IGN).   Hopefully these previews will change minds about the game being just another title in the abyss of shooters.  http://www.gametrailers.com/player/38548.html   - Multiplayer Trailer

-I'm convinced the multiplayer is getting just as much attention -- Killzone 2's
multiplayer should be able to hang with the best of them.

-Still, with the multiplayer gameplay already so good, and with all of the other multiplayer goodies Guerrilla is supplying, from clan support to online leaderboards, I'm convinced Killzone 2 is going to keep playing long after the single campaign is complete.

-I'm happy to report that it was fantastic -- multiplayer felt great and was tons of fun. The available weapons were nicely varied and all felt substantial, the map designs were cool (with a good mix of open and confined areas, staircases, and windows), and there was a fair amount of strategy, such as placing sentry guns in key locations. I had so much fun playing that it was hard to pull me away to let others check it out.

-Fighting against the Helghast is actually very cool in Killzone 2 online because you can see their eyes in the dark and through dense smoke. It adds to the idea that these two opposing sides are really locked in a conflict.

-But regardless of what side you're on, Killzone 2 is a lot of fun online and clearly offers a tremendously rich experience to PS3 owners. I was truthfully shocked at how close the multiplayer portion of the game looks like the incredibly vivid single-player we've seen so much of before.

-Overall, Killzone 2 was a blast -- even in my sleep-deprived state. I can't wait to see more.

-Combat Itself: Killzone 2 multiplayer manages to maintain the fluid speed of the single player experience without sacrificing the looks that get the game featured in so many “look how pretty this game is” magazine spreads.

-The Badge system represents the different classes you can play in multiplayer, from scout to engineer to medic. Each of the six badges have their own skill sets. Where Killzone 2 makes things interesting is that you can combine the power of two badges to create your own class based on your own particular play style. Want an engineer with healing skills? A stealthy soldier with a bazooka? Knock yourself out!

-Dynamic Missions: Instead of playing one mission type and then waiting for the new map to load before beginning another, Killzone 2 features dynamic missions, which allows you and your friends to play through multiple game types on one map without loading.

Hmm you should ask a mod to close your other thread. You already know my opinion from the previous thread. So I will now leave.

Oh come on, the other thread was embarrasing.

The topic asked for FPS fans but instead it got fanboys.

I say we post boobs to lighten the mood.

No, the other thread asked Halo/CoD fans to come in. If he wanted true FPS fans to come into the thread and not fanboys he should have just said so, and everyone knows that you can only be a true FPS fan on PCs. I am being a fanboy here but I have CoD4 for 360 and I liked it but it still doesnt compare to Counter Strike 1.6. or Battlefield 2142.

Another hands-on from Joystiq:

"The level we played in was pretty vast and, despite playing against Guerilla Games employees in Amsterdam, lag was non-existant. The graphics are indistinguishable from the single player gameplay and the motion blur and incredibly pretty explosions are ever-present. We've seen this game a few times now and we're still amazed by how good it looks whenever we get a chance to play."

"Killzone 2's multiplayer is more than just a mere bullet point for the back of the box. Considering all the hype has been about the single player for so long, we never expected the multiplayer to be so fleshed out."

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

This game sounds freakishly similar to Frontlines. What the heck?

P.S. Thats a good thing.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

 Ah, never realized that..

The badge system seems like a complete ripoff from Frontlines, except KZ2 lets you use badges (or skills) from various types, which is pretty cool... Who wouldn't want to be a medic with a Bazooka??

To quote GamePro on their Killzone 2 multiplayer hands-on experience:

"Killzone 2 is doing so many inventive things on the online side that it's looking like the "kitchen sink" multiplayer experience. It feels like Call of Duty 4 mixed with elements of Halo and Battlefield games. Guerrilla Games really seems to get the online innovation thing, implementing tons of clan and tournament features, not to mention the option to customize each game to play exactly how you want it to. Shooter fans should really start getting excited about it now, though I think many of you have been waiting almost four years for this to drop. We're almost there!"

Second hands-on opinion from GameSpy:

"Killzone 2's feature set feels like a combination of many different excellent ideas that have appeared in previous games, all brought together for the first time. It feels like it incorporates the job system from Final Fantasy Tactics with the experience system of Call of Duty 4 as well as the unique character class roles from Team Fortress 2 (not to mention the spawn mechanics from Frontlines: Fuel of War.) Not a bad lineup if you're drawing comparisons."

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

Halo and COD4 multiplayer are top tier for console FPS.
KZ2 is a console FPS.
So it basically means that if you're a fan of arguably the best and most well known FPS franchises then check this game out.
And the topic was asking for fans, just plain fans, not "true" fans or fanboys, as in people who enjoy those type of games.
And yeah I'm also a counterstrike player and a COD4 player.
The mouse is more comfortable, but I can make do with analog sticks.
