Even a budget gaming computer lasted me roughly 5 years of being able to play most of the current releases. If I had built a decent gaming computer it would have lasted me 6 years of being able to play all current releases.

Don't mistake the overzealous ego driven PC gamer as the standard. A reasonable PC gamer and a reasonably educated PC user can get a lot of life out of a system with only minor hiccups.

 Bold - Steam makes all of these problems a figment of yester-year.
Italics - Getting a more up to date computer will usually sort these problems out (mind you, that is upgrading. But non-compatible drivers aren't really a problem anymores),

Yes PC gaming is a pain in the ass (expensive upgrades to have good graphics and a good framerate, drivers, bugs, viruses, etc)

But it has its advantages too

Not everything runs on Steam though.

The true is consoles are specialized computers. Their advantage is saving you the trouble of having to handle the hardware and software management, all you gotta do is to put the disc and play. But the ps gives the opportunity to upgrade it to the last tech, so it will be better than the the best console, if you have the time and expertise to tune your pc. Heck, you can do almost anything to a pc, and the screen has a better config than most tvs, only now we have hd options. Shooters have better gameplay in the pc, strategy and simulation too. Aiming with the old joystick( if there´s no lag, the wii remote is a good option) is way way worse than with a mouse. So the only reason why a computer is losing space as gaming plataform is that is more confortable to play in a console, less headaches.

^ you forget the fact our RPGs are more complex and the fact that a screen running 1600x1200 or 1920x1200 resolution is in fact running 1200p in terms of HD. Much more HD than the crappy 1080p screens they have out right now. I watch movies on my laptop since they look so damn sharp and crisp.
