Forums - Gaming - Is Nintendo unwittingly nailing gaming print mag coffins shut?

The Wii may be winning in hardware, but you have to admit that most of the big games coming out are multiplat PC/PS3/360 or exclusive to one of the three, thus they get talked about the most.

I do think that GameInformer in particular can be quite anti-Wii at times, though, which makes little sense seeing as the magazine is supposed to help sales at GameStop...

Bingo was his name-o!

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

@MakingMusic -- Depends on what you define as big games.

And speaking of Game Informer, two of the games they featured on their cover this year -- Brutal Legend and Ghostbusters -- were among those that Activision-Blizzard decided not to keep. Makes you wonder about somebody's decision-making.

Honestly, there is a lot of people who seem to hate the Wii solely because it does not have the same power as the PS3 or Xbox 360.

Speaking of GameInformer, their review archive shows roughly 50 titles for each console -- which would be an over-coverage of the PS3 and an under-coverage of the Xbox 360, based upon the console ownership reader poll. Honestly, I don't buy those numbers and plan to verify them.

Who only gets GI because it comes with my Edge card, which means if I buy $150 over the year of used stuff, the card has paid for itself and it and the magazine are free.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Magazines and newspaper sales are on the continuous downhill slide. All the information you need is on the internet.

BTW: Less magazine and newspaper sales = less trees are cut down and more environment friendly.

Game Informer has already featured the Aliens game and Alpha Protocol, both of which are due out LATE next year. Madworld and The Conduit have closer release dates and I can guarantee that neither will be featured. Both are high profile games (more-so than Aliens).

Game magazines are dying, but I think the murderer is sites such as this one, rather than Ninty

Yeah, I don't read game magazines that much. The only one I read anymore is Nintendo Power.

^^ Yeah. They ar eso convinced that games are "art" that tends to act snobish

There will always be an avant garde and kitsch. Remember that.

Cant compare Game reviewers to movie Reviewers anymore
The movie reviewers at least acknowledge something which has low production values but is fun to watch
Game Reviewers,on the other hand, are slowly becoming Graphic,A-I etc whores, looking for a half-assed but serious sounding story-line more than an actually fun gaming experience

"The accumulated filth of all their sex and murders will foam up about their waist and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"...

....and I'll look down and whisper  "no."

@jman8: As to your first post, the answer is simply yes. And that's what the market decides. If you disagree with the review too many times, you will stop reading them and find someone who knows how to review games and read his/her reviews.

@Makinmusic: Yes and no. I don't know about Wii Fit review, but it definately is one of the biggest games this year outside Japan (and in Japan too, but it was released in 2007 there), which means that it should have been rated almost everywhere. Like Brawl and MKWii.
