Ps2=Greatest system ever!

Anyone that says otherwise is an idiot!

 Based on the average sales it would seem the DS is a ton better for sales of SE products.

Well compared except, your comparing 19 with 76! Fair enough?

 And what exactly was your comment based upon that the number of titles released would not make a difference?

 Honestly the number of games released should not make a huge difference in the long run supposing you can expect a similar level of sales from all games.As the number of titles released increases you beging to approach the actual average sales of games released by SE. After a certain point you start to see very minor variations in the actual number rather than large  changes because it is getting so close to the average sales (or limit to those familiar with this math concept). So the number of titles is not as big a factor as you would lead people to believe.

It's cool because it allows to justify some conventions JRPG gamers use.
Like that MMORPG are not counted in JRPG, because even if made by japanese, the concept of MMORPG itself is too western-like: basically grinding to no end.
Thus why the FFXI sales are pitiful, despite it being a roman numbered FF.

It confirms that DQ is the big seller in Japan, more than FF.
Also, it confirms that Star Ocean is a small series, on par or even smaller than Tales Of in Japan.

Finally, it clearly shows that SRPG are far more niche than traditional JRPG.
Too bad we don't have PS1 era, as it would show the best selling SRPG, which is FFT, around 1M units.

But it's understandable, as the company wasn't called Square Enix back then, but Squaresoft, then Square.

This comparison is stupid anyway. Numbers of games released by SE are not a metric, it's not defining anything, and it's stupid to compare these.

At best, it shows how SE supported the platforms.

We can notice several games that sold poorly on several consoles, games that sold like less than 20k units. So the average sales are not interesting either as a metric of anything. The "weighted average" (is that how it's called?) would be more useful in this case.

SE's best quality was in the SNES era.

FF4, FF6, Chrono Trigger, Bahamut Lagoon, Romancing Saga, Secret of Mana... Super Mario RPG.

I'd take any of those over any game Square has released since... (except for Front Mission 3.)

I meant this!

Greatest:Larger in size than others of the same kind.

I hate to dissapoint you guys, but these games were made by SQUARESOFT!!!!

Star Ocean and Tales of are actually pretty big in Japan, it's just that DQ and FF are so huge that it makes SO and Tales small in comparison

Fact:FFT was the only SRPG that sold 1 million+ copies in Japan alone

Square and Enix merged in 2003. PS2 came out in 2000.

Their data counts games made before enix absorbed Square.

If they are counting Square games as their own who am I to disagree?

 Well if we are going to start an e-penis measuring contest over what console is better I figured we might as well go all out. There really isn't a useful way to quantify this data without a ton more info on every title released. We would need average return on investment, genre of the game. and development time with required budget to make another game in a similar genre that could be expected to sell somewhat well. The weghted average would help address some of those concerns but would still not be nearly robust enough.

@Pika

You just proved my point!

Millions of idiots around the world are with me

Greatest:Larger in size than others of the same kind...I love the dictionary...

The 360 is a lot larger then the PS2. Have you ever seen the two side to side. Even the PS3 fat fails in that comparison.

I meant amount...

That would mean the number of games released by square were the greatest.

Not the PS2 itself since said numbers are not an actual part of the PS2.  If your going to be pedantic and super literal about the use of words you've got to make sure you are actually being literal.

Well then, before starting to call this system or that system the greatest let's see some numbers from the ps1 from squareSOFT

just pointing out that some of these discussions are totally useless because the data is INCOMPLETE to have that kind of discussion
