Forums - Gaming - Poll: So who will buy a PS3 at the new pricepoint?

Nope. I doubt I'll ever get a PS3. I already have a Wii and the 360 is the better system in my opinion (especially once MS fixes the reliability problem). I hardly have enough time for 2 systems much less 3 so there pretty much isn't anything Sony can do to get me to buy a PS3.

Nope, sure doesn't. It's still $100 too expensive in my eyes and I prefer the upcoming 360 lineup.

Like I said, maybe next year.

I remember when disillusioned Nintendo fans made the same argument about the Gamecube...

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

A huge exclusive game line up that doesn't seem to appeal to anyone other than Sony devotees for the most part. Don't get me wrong, they are going to be phenomenal exclusives for the PS3, but the only ones the average consumer really cares about is MGS4, FFXIII, GT5, Ratchet and Clank and God of War. End of List.

Sure there are going to be some fantastic upcomming exclusive IPs aside from those, however... most will go unoticed as they do little to excite those not already looking to justify that $600 hole in their wallet... I mean seriously, when a upcomming IP's biggest selling point is its graphics, who the hell cares? Since good graphics are a given on the PS3 to begin with I should think it would take something more unique than just having good graphics to warrant an upcomming IP's anticipation or praise as a must have exclusive.

It also somewhat defeats the point of trying to objectively convince others of your views when you simply take every single upcomming PS3 exclusive and add it to the list of awesome must-havery for this Gen. Hell, Sony could come out with 'Smurf's Racing X' as an exclusive and I'm sure you would try and brag that one up too. The same principal also applies to your trend of claiming every developer under Sony's belt is not only one the best game developers in the industry but in themselves reason enough to get excited about any game they make for the PS3, "Hey guys did you hear? Crap-In-A-Bucket Studios, who has done nothing but mediocre games in the past, is making a new exclusive killer app for the PS3! You know its going be awesome!" Seriously, is there anything Sony or its developers could do Game or development Wise that you wouldn't get excited about?

You're entitled to your opinion on what system has the best games but don't act like we're all fools for not agreeing with you when your logic and reasoning is by and large so fanboyishly laughable.

Until they are out, and their reveiws are out, the fall lineup doesn't mean much for a purchase today...

Right now, the fall wii lineup looks better to me than the PS3 lineup (in total, although some good PS3 games).  Price wise, the PS3 is not good enough not to invest $500 n a PS3...

When the set of released games for the PS3 that I want greatly exceed the  games I want for the wii, then I will be interested at the $500 level. Without several must have games, it will have to drop below $200 to hit the impule buy price point for me.  So the better the games for the wii, the less likely I will get a PS3.

If I become bored with the wii (not likely until mid 2008 at the earliest),  the impule buy might come down to $400.  Right now, I am still enjoying the fad of taking gameplay over graphics.

What? The "same argument" in that... Nintendo fans actually claimed Sony and MS fans steered clear of objective sales based forums like this because the Gamecube attracted so many more fans than the PS2 and Xbox with its success? Yeah, I'm not so sure that was the case largely due in part to the fact that the GC sold the worst of the three last gen. Sorry if this is not what you were trying to say but you do realize your vague one scentence reply can be taken to infer about twenty different things. Specify please.

Also curious to know what they are going for on peoples local ebay sellers.

We have a heap selling in the $600-$400 range (i.e. approx 50% retail price) - although we all know ebay, products can be pulled/not sold at the last minute.

Nope. Not even close. I mean when you include tax, I could pick up nearly nine 360 games and almost 11 Wii titles. I'm not even glancing a PS3 until its $299 and even then I'm probably not picking one up. Given my growing disinterest in the Final Fantasy series, FFXIII isn't even a factor for me. MGS4 and White Night Story are about it for me as far as the PS3 goes and that isn't enough for me to pick up a PS3.

Same here, I've lost my interest in Final Fantasy as well, ever since Square Enix is making numerous of spin offs of main games such as FFVII and remakes. Except of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicle which looks very promosing for the WII. White Knight Story is so far the only game, which is highly anticipated to me, as I simply adore Level 5 making their games. And a Star Ocean IV, but I saw on Gamefaqs / Gamespot they've put the game under the PS2 section  So I hope a PS2 or maybe, maybe... very maybe... a WII version....
