Forums - Sony - Reeves: There will be no PS3 price cut this year

How many times do you people have to hear the same thing in order to believe it??!! If there is a possibility of them cutting price... it's not anytime soon. More like near the end of the year........... like just in time for XMAS........

@markers

I have yet to see Microsoft deny a price cut this generation. At least nobody has ever posted a denial from Microsoft. I think they honor the tried and true no comment strategy. Whenever they are asked a question they do not want to answer, or if they do not know the answer they say no comment. That is actually quite brilliant your not going to hide the truth, and more to the point people will hold it against you if you lie.

Sony on the other hand is notorious for lying. In fact they seem to have no compunction about blatantly lying even in front of overwhelming proof to the contrary. You could literally bring them a thousand advertisements and they would dismiss them as being doctored.

Basically this statement by him is worthless, because everyone knows that Sony has a problem with pathological liars in that they seem to prefer hiring them. That does not mean it will or will not happen. Just that you would get a better sense of things reading tea leaves, or dropping acid.

Honestly I do not think Sony will drop prices on the PS3 this year. I think they hit their limit last year. The investors have had all they can stand, and they cannot stand anymore. Sony cannot go back to them hat in hand, and ask for the investors to cough up some more dividends so they can loss lead the PS3 into even darker territory. Nobody has any legitimate reason to complain about the pricing of the PS3 at this point regardless.

I mean Sony actually loss lead on some units last year be as much as two hundred percent. That means they sold some consoles for half the manufacturing costs. How much more self mutilation do some folks expect. I am still shocked Sony had the balls to pull what they did last year, and I would be even more shocked no matter the situation if they did so again. What would be the point they saved the format. They saved the console. Making money is how they will save the division and the prospects of another console.

Hell knows if they'll drop the price or not, it's just not that simple as it was last year when hw component prices started to fall.

It's really starting to look wierd with Sony fans, denial of anything means that something will happen for sure. Either way, someone is gonna eat crow before the end of the year.

Huh. Who would've thought that beggining anew in my real life would coincide with starting anew on vgchartz?

Any day now, the dollar will be worth less than 2 zloty......any day now.....and my life savings will be in total jepordy ;(.

A price reduction is possible, but I wouldn't say it is likely at this point in time ...

If Sony reduces the price this Christmas, like they did last Christmas, they will have built in the expectation for another price reduction next Christmas. On top of this, excessive use of price reductions in an attempt to increase demand will send the message to consumers that your product is unpopular (even more-so if your product is already known to be struggling).

@Happy keeping in mind the PS3 is still the most expensive current gen console a price reduction would have less effect on the perceived value or popularit of the PS3 than it would the 360 or the Wii( ok maybe not the Wii but definetley the 360).

And last time I checked consumers don't monitor hardware price changes too closely they just respond to price changes when they occur.

I think they are waiting until the smaller cell and graphics card hit mass production to see how much the ps3 costs to produce after that hits. Also, I remember reading sometime this year about a cheaper way to produce the blu ray stuff, anyone have any info about hat? If they are able to drastically drop the price of that they could be more aggressive with the pricing of the ps3, or they could keep it high through the holidays when they are going to sell a lot of hardware anyways and make some of the 3.3 billion back by selling three consoles for a profit plus a ton of software.

I'm speculating that once all the old models are gone we will see a price drop in late October to coincide with their first big casual push title being LBP. If not then the beginning of the new fiscal year in march to coincide with God of War 3.

Of Course SONY would deby a price cut. Otherwise people would hold off for a cheaper price, and current sales would drop off

Cutting for Christmas is the right move.

i aint expecting a price cut unless the machine starts selling like crap again, *checks sales data*

Nope not guna happen its selling better then 360.
