Forums - Nintendo - A reason behind the last 2 weeks of slumping wii sales?

After seeing this commercial for about the 20th time it dawned on me.  Maybe why the wii's last two weeks of sales have been slumping compared to previous weeks is because of the Comcast Triple Play deal thats currently going on (free wii when you sign up for comcast triple play).  I know one person who got there wii through this.  Maybe nintendo stockpiled them in an agreement with comcast of about 200,000 wiis which caused the actual retail sales on vgcharts to show up differently.

What do you guys think?

while it is within the realm of possibility, i don't agree, more likely that it is just a stockpile before holiday season (getting ready for wii music)

Summer slowdown?, stockpiling for X-mas?, or people spending money on school supplies rather than games?

those are what I have...

Why stock pile this early though, and I doubt wii music will be huge enough to stock pile wiis for.  Even just to drive up sales the game probably costed very little to develop.

The Wii is a fad.

You know that this is true when the biggest title released in August is a Virtual Console game.

Megaman 9 isnt just a virtual console game.

On topic:

I dont think its a decrease in demand(although that would go straight with my very old prediction), but I dont think its stockpiling either..

Ive been noticing wii hardware has been dropping gradually montly in the U.S(source NPD), anything is possible, lets not jump to conclusions.

shakarak, you are underestimating WiiMusic honestly. I mean. I really don't care for the game, but it's starting to get hyped in Manhattan by the Casuals. (I hate that word for some reason cause it makes normal people who don't game often sound like aliens which they are not.)

But, this case, it is definitely about school, holiday stockpiling. I also believe they stockpiled maybe 50k or more for Super Mario Sluggers. (which is turning out to be more geared towards the casuals.)

Is that why PS3 and 360 have been crushing the competition this summer?

I'm willing to bet Super Sluggers does well.

I think he is talking about the original Megaman. Doesn't Megaman 9 come out in september on Wiiware?

How is wii music being hyped.  Most casuals already play or know about games like rock ban and guitar hero 3.  Those are along the same lines.  unlike wii fit or wii sports, this game does not bring anything new to the table.   I expect this game not to flop, but if sold at the 50$ tag price this game will probably have the same sales as big braid academy.

... Well I don't knoe about nationiwide, or even worldwide. I do knoe from all my effort trying to get Wii Fit, that in my area It is still impossible to get a Wii any given day. It hasn't been on a shelf since it debuted (sp?). I imagine that whenever the Wii sales slump its due to supply more than anything else. Could it be a result of planned production for Holiday/Christmas, yeah that could very well be true.
