This is exactly what I was going to say. If Criterion can give us updates that actually should be paid for entirely for free, then Valve should have no trouble. They're all under the same EA label. I second bullshit on this.

The updates exist, and it would be trivial for the PR departments of the consoles to come out and deny trying to make them charge for the update. Regarding the rest of the topic, that is merely Gabe not understanding the difference between PCs and consoles. There is a pathway on consoles because there are console makers. If the PC had a dictator the same way as consoles do, it would be no different for it.

That comment he made regarding releasing four updates for a PC game in one day is exactly why Valve and other developers need to be kept in check on their console offerings.

Can you even think of a possible benefit? I find it much easier to believe that Sony and Microsoft are more likely to give certain companies a break in the interest of promoting and mainaining a good business relationship. On the flip side I can see them not doing the same favor for a company notorious for bad mouthing consoles.

So you're basically saying it's true and it's Gabe's fault for always mouthing off? Ok, I can see that. Not that this turn of events is helping out any if true.

Valve is not tiny, but they probably can't afford to throw away money like some other companies do...if it costs them too much to put updates onto consoles for free, they just can't do it.

Kinda sucks, but overall their games are always better on PC anyway...they're a PC developer primarily and this is just how things go.

Oh and stop lumping them with EA...EA's not in control in any way, they're just publishing the retail versions. So if you say "EA does this" that doesn't mean Valve does that.

Yeah I don't see what valve gains by lying about this. Short of some other logical explanation I would have to assume this is on MS and Sony...I'm willing to consider other options if they make sense but that's what this looks like to me.

If it really is because Gabe has been blunt in speaking about consoles it's pretty messed up. They are only proving his point by blocking them. They aren't hurting valve (valve wasn't going to get cash from this anyways) they are only hurting their customers.
