Forums - Sales - NPD, GfK, Media Create collaborate on global sales figures

Wonder if VG forced them into this...

Next they will be starting a "public" website, with databases tracking sales of all the games

It does look suspsiously like VGChartz had an influence on this course of action

Meh. I first read about this and thought it might be worthwhile, but was wrong. About the only thing I see coming out of this is UK numbers for a handful of titles being more readily available. Other than that, it's nothing more than taking public numbers for the US and JP, then doing some addition. Big whoop.

"I feel like I could take on the whole Empire myself."

Soon there will be constant treads like " GTA4 confirmed overtracked compared to Top Global Markets Report"

Yeah, I didn't realise that it doesn't cover ALL of Europe. Until they do that, the numbers are meaningless - Japan numbers are open & freely available, and lots of UK numbers are as well.

Still - its an interesting move.

Nocturnal is helping companies get cheaper game ratings in Australia:

Game Assessment website

Wii code: 2263 4706 2910 1099

They gave a breakdown for all 5 titles btw, you might have wanted to add those to your opening post:

Rank Title Total US UK Japan
1 GRAND THEFT AUTO IV 6,293,000 4,711,000 1,582,000 –
2 SUPER SMASH BROS: BRAWL 5,433,000 3,539,000 213,000 1,681,000
3 MARIO KART WII 4,697,000 2,409,000 687,000 1,601,000
4 WII FIT 3,604,000 1,433,000 624,000 1,547,000
5 GUITAR HERO III: LEGENDS OF ROCK 3,475,000 3,037,000 412,000 26,000

Interesting information we didn't have from NPD yet:
- SSBB sold around 340k copies in the last 2 months when subtracting the known figures from the LTD provided here. Which means it was probably just outside the top 10 in July, which is very good for a title released in March.
- GTA IV is almost dead in the water already, considering the 4.71M is only 120k higher than the totals until June.

The Charttrack data seems to be the extrapolated figures, so they're higher than the ELSPA sales award numbers. It is unclear however up to what week these numbers are. WiiFit and Mario Kart Wii should both reach Double Platinum in the next update and SSBB should reach Gold.

Famitsu numbers are up to 27 July judging by Mario Kart Wii numbers.

@DirtyP: Cut off 250M? 400 million in EU alone, and then the rest of the Europe.

@Topic: So this is just 3 countries data. Much about nothing new then.

But anyway, congrats to ioi for making this happen.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

hmmm no Halo 3? Halo 3 has sold more than Brawl in just the US. Why is that not on there? It would be top.

Selnor, ask yourself when was Halo 3 released?

although I don't see it saying this anywhere, I bet this is just for this years sales.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

This has to be a response to VGC. Smells like a win for the site to me.
