Yea.. Sony doesnt want current sales to slow so of course they will deny it.

I wonder if they will?

I mean...nobody who vaguely checks the internet would dare buy a PS3 this week.

I suppose there's plenty of consumers that don't check though....

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

On googles main news page there are plenty of new articles showing that Sony's Head said there are no current plans to reduce the price of the PS3. If you need proof just google 'PS3' in the news section.

We know...but the retail stores have ads printed up already...either Sony's lying, which is the general consensus (because it'd be stupid to tell consumers that the PS3 will be $100 cheaper...next week. Nobody would buy it this week.), or the retail stores like Circuit City and Target are making their own specials, taking the $100 per system hit themselves...which sounds ludicrous, unless they were trying to just get rid of the PS3s or something, which I doubt.

It was clear that Sony ,as producer of their consoles and most of its components ,could lower the manufacturing costs faster that MS. Now the PS3 will be about the same as the Elite and with the BR drive ,retrocompatibility with PS1 and PS2 ,Linux ,free online etc .Good value sure .

If Sony was really agressive they should lower the price even more .450 and especially 400 are the sweet spots to touch way greater demographics that the current ones.

Foxconn and Asustek are the ones who actually make the PS3, just like Wistron makes the 360. Sony is no different than Microsoft with regards to manufacturing.

And is anyone else amazed that people are calling $400 a "sweet spot" or hailing $500 as the price that will move millions of consoles? Both prices are the same as, or more than, any other "successful" console launched at. With a $100 price cut, the PS3 is still ridiculously expensive and $400 is the same as the 360 launch point. WTF?

This is exactly the kind of denial you can expect. The info leaked out too early because of a Circuit City flyer and now they said no 'iminent' price drop which is a very loose term. They were going to announce it at E3 but it came out a week early. Notice how he doesn't say no price cut in the near future, but says no 'iminent' price cut.

I agree. Obviously they'd deny it, as they're not interested in selling 0 PS3s for the next week and a half.

We'll see for sure at E3.

Yeah, stores don't make cuts themselves. Especially on a device they make no profit on in the first place.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

Foxconn and Asustek are helping with the PS3 manufacturing ,but they arent taking the bulk of production.Sonys own factories are working on it as well  .Foxconn ,by the way ,was just recently contracted by Sony .And Sony makes the BR diodes ,they are manufacturing Cell etc...you dont like it but they have a better control over the components and their costs .

The PS3 at 400 would sell far more that the X360 at the same price .Just as well as the PS2 at the same price sold far more than the Xbox .
