It was clear that Sony ,as producer of their consoles and most of its components ,could lower the manufacturing costs faster that MS. Now the PS3 will be about the same as the Elite and with the BR drive ,retrocompatibility with PS1 and PS2 ,Linux ,free online etc .Good value sure .

If Sony was really agressive they should lower the price even more .450 and especially 400 are the sweet spots to touch way greater demographics that the current ones.

Foxconn and Asustek are the ones who actually make the PS3, just like Wistron makes the 360. Sony is no different than Microsoft with regards to manufacturing.

Foxconn and Asustek are helping with the PS3 manufacturing ,but they arent taking the bulk of production.Sonys own factories are working on it as well  .Foxconn ,by the way ,was just recently contracted by Sony .And Sony makes the BR diodes ,they are manufacturing Cell etc...you dont like it but they have a better control over the components and their costs .

The PS3 at 400 would sell far more that the X360 at the same price .Just as well as the PS2 at the same price sold far more than the Xbox .
