A) I don't know any system that would have used its full potential, so i don't know why you brought this up. I wouldn't call Wii or DS games cheap, unless we compare them to the competition. And i wouldn't call Wii or DS games particularly easy, since they follow the general trend in the industry.
B) Especially DS can't be called "improvement to previous generation", since that title goes to PSP. Same goes for Wii, but only to lesser extent, in my opinion, while PS360 just improved from last gen. They weren't designed like they are to get a low price (Wii, the most expensive Nintendo console so far), they were designed to make profit from day 1 and to disrupt the market with introducing new values. We have 3 consoles in the current gen, that were dated specswise the day they came out.
It's propable that next gen we will 3 consoles that generate profit from HW too, instead of plain software, but as for the state-of-the-art hardware, if you play with consoles, you should get used to that they aren't never latest hardware. |
When I say cheap, I say it compared to this gen, they are selling at ps2 lauching price, while ps3 is seling at $400 the chaeapest and x360 is only now bellow $299. This matters. And wii sports and wii play are easy games, cause they are meant to be. It´s not a trend, cause you can´t compare the golf of wii sports with tiger woods of ps3 or x360, the gameplay is more difficult to handle. So that´s my fear, that because of the nintendo success, the other majors follows its strategy. I could be wrong, I hope I´m wrong actually. I hope there´s a niche distribution, with nintendo getting the casual market and mS and sony the hardcore. Let´s wait for the next gen. This gen will be dominated by wii and ds, no doubt. And when I say a improvement to last gen, is compared to GC and and gameboy. Nintendo could have made a more powerful console, but they choose otherwise. They sure have the tecnology and capacity, but propably would be too costly. Good decision making. The problem cames if everybody choose this path. One of the main ps3 problems is the retrocompatibility, that only some models have, mainly cause of the price problem. Mine isn´t for example, a pity as I can´t play the 7 ps2 games I have. I imagine the drama for people who have 20 or more ps2 games. |
You're still not doing any better - try harder.
So, we had two overpriced consoles and one expensive/decently priced. I'm not getting how you see that as a good thing.
Besides, 360 has been cheapest of the three since last spring.
Ok, how about if i compare Tiger Wood on PS360 to Tiger Woods on Wii. Does it make you feel better. We have basically the same games, with the difference that the Wii version features more realistic controls. If you find the Wiis controls more difficult to handle, that's your problem. I bet the vast majority of people disagrees you.
As for the Wii Sports and Wii Play, they're not easy games games at all. Tell me after beating the average "hardcore" shooter and getting platinum medals and Pro-level in Wii Sports/Play, that which was the easy game.
You know, the "casual" is nothing but bullshit. Look at the games that are on the best-selling lists. Sports games, driving games, etc. They all are "casual" by default. GTA, Guitar Hero, Singstar. What sells these games is their "casual" appeal. I bet you got into gaming with "casual" games.
When NES came, it introduced a lot of "casuals" to gaming, the same thing happened with PSX and now with Wii. The fifth generation started cinematic era, when a lot of people thought their games were interactive movies. All the commercials showed CGI and people were playing their games just to see the next CGI clip. These are the people who call themselves as hardcore today, when the people who got into gaming before it, knows that the forementioned group is the casual and us, who came in before 5th generation, are the hardcore.
Yeah, in comparision to GBA and GC, PSP and PS360 are only improvements. Just like i said.
Nintendo will dominate next generation just by based on the success of DS and Wii. Every console will try to annihilate the market of these two, but the third parties will choose the Nintendo platforms (of course, every console will get 3rd party support, but majority will go to Nintendo). And there is no such market split as you are saying. The most dominant console will get the most gamers (surprise) and the most games - despite the genre.
BTW, DS is based on the same tech as PSP and Wii bases on the same as PS360. They just have different focus on using the tech.
