For the sake of argument. Yes I am comparing them because of the concept bieng the same. School was not their Forte. Also let us not forget that Gates (and Hitler ha ha ha /jk) are bieng judged ex post facto. Gates is only reverred because he succeseded through forgery and lying on a contract (he claimed to have ownership of an OS that he did not). I am 100% positive that at the time all of us would have thought much less of gates than this 16 year old. Yet we do not consider it the same because we know the "success" of Gates. (Its possible God put a stickey note on his soul that says 'epic fail!' /lol)

He dropped out of a scholastic pursuit (despite level) to strive toward something extremely shakey that 99% of all people wouldn't do. = same thing.

btw.  Thanks for the ratings and posts guys!

I think you should be a high school guidance counselor.  You can hand out fliers!  "Drop out now!  Be the next Bill Gates!"

I give that post a 9.2.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

It angers me that you put this kid and Gates in the same sentence. Creating a business with far more education, , and leaving school for a god damned videogame are not the same thing. One cannot even hold a candle to the other. $1000 is a crappy amount of money to convince a kid that he should drop out of school. It's sad and makes this country look dumber and dumber than we're already looking. What happens if this kid gets thrown off course with him gaming career?...what will he have? At 16 years old $1000 dollars is a pittance and couldn't sway me, any more than it cannot today. I've been making money in those amounts monthly since I was 13. Imagine how much i've saved up now, and im chasing my bachelors. This kids a joke. That kids parents need to have weekly meetings with DCF and a psychologist until he turns 18.

When I use the term equivalency I mean the tests Achievement tests. They are getting curved and dumbed down so American students can pass. As you well know America is a nation where it's extremely hard to be equal. It's an individualist nation, so that would be extremely stupid. I'm talking about equivalency bar set in the world as far as tests. Thats what these guys want, a nation riddled with dumbasses.

If you are refering to the No Child Left Behind Act like I think you are the thing was set up to fail from the start.  The only people to stupid to see it were the President and Congress.  Not only does it expect schools to improve their scores from year to year (do these idiots think the same kids will stay there forever?) but if they don't it will cut funding (how the hell is that supposed to rememdy the problem?) and to top it all off, mentally disabled kids are lumped in with everyone else.  So if you go from having 2 mentally disabled kids in one year, to having an influx of 10 the next so that you know have 12 mentally disabled kids taking these tests to try to keep federal money coming into the school.  Especially when the kids who are not disabled don't give a damn (why should they, they won't be effected by the loss of revenue, /sarcasm) drag down the scores on purpose or are just plain dumb like the kid in the original post, the school gets royally screwed because Bush is an idiot.  McCain or Obama need to take that idiotic act off of the books the second they get into office.  Yes I know that was a bit of a rant but my mom is a teacher and to listen to her talk about dumb ass kids not trying on these tests and how mentally disabled kids struggle their hardest to try not to let the school down I get really pissed off at Bush for his stupidity.

I actually agree with you. But the problem with this country is were being sold out to a bunch of corporate interests who want keep the educational level of the citizens in the country so low and keep us so saturated with unimportant nonsense below the grade level of a 9th grader, so that they can screw us on a level all Americans should be able to understand so they can fight back.

WOW.....seriously speechless at how stupid this kids parents are

This is why the gaming industry gets a bad rep.

I don't support Guitar Hero in the least, nor Rockband. Its sad that a bunch of wannabes are being paid for this shit. I leave games like this for dorks and wannabes. I wouldn't shell out money for something like that when I could buy a beautiful real guitar.

It's not even that. It's the point that the kid is throwing away his education just because he won $1000 worth of prizes, I mean serisouly? 1 grand? That's hardly even a fraction of my monthly mortgage + bills. Whoever drops out of school just to play videogames are fools, he also lives in the same city as me, I guess this is another bad seed from raleigh NC.

I don't know what will happen with this kid's life but homeschoolers do better on standardized tests than kids from government schools.  I don't see how being educated at home means he is throwing away his education.  He didn't quit school, just government school.

Wow, this little brat told his parents that school was a waste of time.....he's gonna fail at life. He better go back to school.

Just like Bill Gates failed at life?

Oh yea, dropping out of high school is sooo like dropping out of Harvard.

I give that post a 9.2.

However, the kid didn't drop out of high school either.  The article said he switched to homeschooling.

Honestly commando? Comparing a highschool student that droped out of highschool to play GuitarHero to Bill Gates? Seriously?

The article may be wrong but it said the kid homeschools so he didn't drop out of high school.
