Forums - Sales - How accurate is this site?

i've been wondering, where exactly does this site get its data, and does "others" include every other place where consoles are sold?

in other words, are the numbers at the front page within say, 85-90% of the real world sales?

Take a gander at the front page.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

This site is very accurate.

Way more accurate than you and your buddy telling each other stories about how way more of your friends have an Xbox 360 than a PS3.

Just kiss the tip.

sometimes on point sometimes hit or miss...

proabably 75% accurate. it's hard to get every store to give one person their sales numbers.

why do you need to add malice to every thread you go to? its just a simple question, not asking about anything fanboy-related.

More often than not, it is quite accurate, much to the chagrin of internet fanboys across the globe.

Hardware sales totals are realistic, in terms of tracking the confidence goes Japan-Europe-Americas-Other regions. Software is a much higher volume market than hardware so we have more scaling errors. Software totals are incomplete too, so in those two senses alone its clearly not as good as the hardware sales and totals on the site. At the same time, I think software is improving more rapidly

honestly I doubt VGC is very accurate.

How many guys are working on this site or the data? ioi, TheSource and who else? NPD will have some more people working on this fulltime. Here we have got some students maybe trying to earn some extra money.

Nobody knows where the data is coming from, how do they get the information needed to calculate the numbers? NPD got the data from retailers I guess. Is VGC calling random stores and asking about the latest sales?

For the Xbox Live Arcade Sales, they are using my gamercard.net and assume everyone is paying the game in USD. So UK and the rest of Europe are handled as US-Americans.

Are PSN-downloads included for game-sales?

NPD showed a 50% difference to the last VGC-data for the Xbox360 and 25% difference for the PSP. Of course without giving an explanation why this happened.

So there are a lot of questions not answered. I probably get banned for mentioning my doubts.

*edit* Read my post and it sounds very negative. Didn't mean to. VGC is still fun though

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
