she looked amazingly real! as jack tretton would say, not only exlusive on ps3, but only possible on ps3.

That was done on a PC.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
With these type of graphics developed in games all you'd get is more sequals, bigger development cycles, less games and less smaller fresher dev companies. I love choice and risky titles where people try something new.
The gaming industry is getting more and more costly to turn out a game thats now deemed "acceptable" on a HD console and that concerns me.
| BenKenobi88 said: @Dgc1808: Why though? If we could have a similar style to those cutscenes, only with ultra-high resolution to the point they look like real people, what's wrong with that? @Me: Yeah I'm sure ultra-realistic graphics will cost a lot...but I'm talking about an affordable system...if these kinds of graphics were available without cutting a game down to 15 hours...would you want it? If not, why not? |
Because if gaming was doing so well with ps2 quality graphs then I find this unnessacery. This may look good but this only increases development time, and add to the game's budget. I would rather have that money and time go to awesome gameplay, amazing story, and a really deep and enjoyable game.

Away from the uncanny valley, no artifacting or texture pop-in, or aliasing...why would that not be a plus? Walking through a videogame world and have it look exactly like the real world sounds like a great graphics option, and the only reason it isn't done now is because the technology isn't there. Why would we want a Resident Evil CGI quality or Final Fantasy CGI quality game, when the possibility to have realistic graphics is there? I understand less realistic games like Mario and Zelda should still have some cel-shaded style...but what about Metroid? Don't you think having all the people look indecipherable from real people would be a plus? Ultra-high-resolution textures, buildings, water, etc? It doesn't have to be the only option for game graphics, but I sure as hell want a character that looks and animates as well as that lady in the video in my games. |
so first off...i reconize your point and for you it is completely valid.
...but for me, i hate realism whether is games, tv, movies whatever. i like things more larger-than-life which is why i'm into things like harry potter, star wars, lotr, x-men, pixar movies, ect.
so do i want a "realistic" metroid? no, i definetly do not. HD? sure. detailed? for sure. beatiful? hell yeah! but please stay far far away from realistic.
give me more things along the lines of R&C, LBP, fable2, banjo pleeease. the more realisic gaming gets the more turned off i get.
I agree with Ben. Graphics in games will be at this level, and it will be awesome. This tech will probably only be used in movies for the near future. Does anyone know if this is the tech James Cameron is using for his next movie?

Ok, well I guess this is where we're confused.
When I say "realistic" I mean, you look at a person in a videogame, and it looks EXACTLY like a person in real life. Is there anything wrong with that?
Like you mentioned X-men...but that features real actors, everything appears realistic, other than the super-powers of course. Wouldn't everyone here want an X-men videogame where the characters looked exactly like real human beings, and the buildings look like real buildings, etc? There obviously will still be magic, fireballs, electricity and what have you flying all over the place...but with realistic graphics.
"Realistic" doesn't have to mean a lady sitting in a chair reading you a book...I just mean that level of graphics and realism.

I completely get what you mean and i certainly appreciate your interest...but i still don't like it.
think of it like this....we could both have some art on our walls of the exact same subject. you however prefer a photograph while i prefer an impressionist painting. neither of us are wrong - it's just what we prefer.
I want really good graphics i just don't really like realistic graphics. if i did i wouldn't be soo obsessed with crap like aqua teen hunger force and the venture brothers when there are far more realistic animation series out.
| Xen said: I surely hope not! seriously, enough already.. all this graphics focus will kill the industry (sky high production costs), not to mention that no one wants to play something that does not differ from what you see outside your window! Seriously, if this is the future, I'll probably quit when the next generations employ it. |
I agree on the first part about dev costs, but as for not being able to distinguish reality from a game... All this would do is make games liek interactive movies. It's not like you boycott movies because they look too real, is it?
PSN: chenguo4
Current playing: No More Heroes
I don't want my games to be interactive movies... (save for the MGS series) I want my games to be games, with graphics that suit them.
