the only thing holding the ps3 back is PRICE!!! thats it PRICE AND GAMES!!!!

And idiotic statements from Sony. And exclusives being dropped every week. And the Wii. And Microsoft.

If you compare the PS3 to the Dreamcast and Gamecube you'll see that it has sold fewer units in both Japan and North America and is selling at such a slow rate it probably will not catch up up in the near future;

Try this one:

That's right, there is NO DATA for the Dreamcast and Gamecube in the other regions ...

The PS3 is selling worse than the Gamecube and Dreamcast in Japan and North America and it is likely they're not selling enough better in Europe/Others to compensate for that fact.

well the ps3 is outselling the 360 in both japan and other regions this week. which is pretty good for a console that costs £145 (roughly $270) more.

"Other regions" sales for the week:

PS3: 22,155

360: 21,948

That's less than 1% difference, well within the error margin for sales charts, so it's misleading on your part to say the PS3 is outselling the 360. All we can safely say is that they were about equal.

@ nintendo fanboy

nobody ever said that the 360 had a good start, but thanks to their headstart it didn't matter that much

There were many, there was a recent aricle which claimed the XBox 360 had the most hyped launch beating even the hype of the Wii launch. The hype was effective as the XBox 360 did amazingly well for North America, I guess consumers weren't and many still aren't well aware of the reliability issues or hoped Microsoft would fix this problem well enough in newer consoles. But not so much here in Europe, many  European consumers are now well aware of the XBox 360 problems, sales are slowing down considerably while normally sales would pick up as the XBox 360 games library is now pretty mature (but IMO still lacking varierty).

The PS3 is really a long term product which IMO cannot be judged based on short term sales figures. At some point the PS3 (maybe a slimline product) will likely take over from the PS2 and there will be many exclusive games available showing off why the Cell processor and a Blu-Ray drive is of added value.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

There's no data for the other regions, yet somehow you know for a fact that it's selling worse? Where do you get your data?

Oh, and here's another fun one, Let's seperate the PS3 by region...Japan and America (Japan obviously doing poorly?)  I don't get where you say it's selling worse than the DC...

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

Review before posting: http://vgchartz.com/forum/rules.php

With the exception of November/December '06, the 360 has been selling very poorly. Showing that the PS3 is only selling slightly slower than the 360 isn't exactly a good thing.

The PS3 has had a very bad start. I hold out hope that it will surpass the 360 yet, and Sony should have a reasonable chance of doing so within a few years.

if we actually had more people like NJ5 on this forum, this forum would be a lot smarter really..

sadly that's not the fact.. =(

Erm, remember that any console before this gen doesn't have any data for europe in the comparisons, at least the PS2 doesnt, it's a bit off putting how crazy fast the Wii is selling compared to the two next gen boys.

In my honest opinion I think too many people don't give the PS3 enough credit because they don't want it to have the credit because they don't want to believe it can start selling better...

Also in my opinion I think the 360 is farked, I don't know if its going to pick up and I can see signs of that console starting to flat line everywhere but the US, and even in the US... bad news for 360, 360 = fail
