The problem with the article is it fails to see that 360 has a much broader library, and more quality exclusives. The article fails to see the lack of decent PS3 exclusives. Hmmmm

Really? The only game i am interested in is fable 2.

Really? Because the games I'm interested in are: Fable 2, Too Human, Gears 2 and Banjo.

End of '08 predictions (made by theprof00): PS3: 20m, 360: 23.5m, wii: 42m

Now Playin':  PS3|Resistance 2, LBP, Uncharted and Fifa 09, PSP| Ratchet and Clank: Size matters, 360| Gears of war 2 and Fallout 3.

That article seems slightly biased...

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

The article contradicts itself a few times, this one is big:

The first Viva Pinata fail to impress, so the second one shouldn't [paraphrasing], but he goes as far to say that Killzone 2 will be awesome.

But he does make a point though, is that microsoft needs to stop striving for parity with the PS3. Instead of being exactly the same as the console, it needs to differentiate itself, which is usually done through Software. But most of MSs software isn't internally developed, meaning generally, it's multi-plat, and doesn't help them.

Internal Development lets Sony and Ninty make their system special to it's owners, while MS system owners only get whatever third-party game was hot a few years ago.

Actually its the PS3 striving for parity in a lot of genres. For example - Killzone 2/RFOM 2, would they exist without Microsoft first releasing the Halo and Gears franchises? Furthermore aren't Microsoft using their Lionhead studios to help spearhead their RPG push this year?

Okay....

Buying games (GTA IV) to make the multi-plat isn't striving for parity?  Or making a Singstar Knock off? Or making a buzz Knock-off?  I can keep going.

The sad truth is that Killzone and Resistance came out before Gears and Resistance and Halo have almost nothing in common.  So I don't understand that.

Yes Lionhead is making Fable 2 on the 360, but that goes back to making and identity.  How long until the game is out on the PC?  A year or so?

Buying games (GTA IV) to make the multi-plat isn't striving for parity? Bull...  Or making a Singstar Knock off? Or making a buzz Knock-off?  I can keep going. Except that both the so called knockoffs take the concept further. Like being able to sing to your Ipod song collection or connecting it online and making a real interactive game show.

The sad truth is that Killzone and Resistance came out before Gears and Resistance and Halo have almost nothing in common.  So I don't understand that. Sony wants their own "Halo" and they've been trying since the PS2 days. RFOM2/KZ2 is just their attempts. Thats where Sony is trying to achieve parity.

Yes Lionhead is making Fable 2 on the 360, but that goes back to making and identity.  How long until the game is out on the PC?  A year or so? Well you could introduce the Xbox360 at a party by saying, this fellow has the best shooters and role playing games currently out this generation. Hes so awesome, etc etc. Isn't that a good enough identity?

Tease.

One will end up 35-40 and the other at 30-35 (high estimates)

oh my god you will eat so much crow.

Lol you could also intoduce the 360 as "Oh hi, this is my mate 360, he used to be very sick but he thinks he's better now, poor chap" and the PS3 as "Oh hi, this is my mate PS3. He's supposed to be really strong, but i've never seen him do a decent days work in his life."

As for the Wii, they could be seen as the Village People of the current gen. They awesome music for parties, yet many people didn't realise how gay they were. Yet they still sell records and who doesn't like a good dose of Y.M.C.A. occasionally even though it's not the most fullfilling music out there?

Anyway, back on topic, the writer seems to have a couple of good points, but i just wish s/he didn't make it seem so one-sided as if MS will have no answer to Sony's "innovations"

The battle between the two is getting more and more rediculous every day, the systems are so close in capability and performance that any perceived advantage is almost clutching at straws

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

he sounded like a troll.

The PS2 took off at 250, you're right.  But your missing the key piece of info... it took off within 18 months of world wide launch.

What's going to significantly change?  One will end up 35-40 and the other at 30-35 (high estimates), does it really matter which one as far as the industry goes? No it only matters to fanboys.

What matters is that Sony starts making a profit.

Wait. What? You can't be serious. I agree with the rest of your post, but you're nuts if you actually think that.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

@bdbdbd

I can't see how Wii eats at 360 sales... I'd imagine the PS2 and PS3 eating at the 360 sales as well as each other.

The key points of the PS2 seem to = the PS3 but for some reason that formula isn't working.. maybe it is but it's being split 3 ways.

If anything Microsoft probably wished Wii was eating their sales as it would mean they are eating Wii sales also.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

Selnor, well said.

The PS3 might be able to render better graphics on some multiplats. However, the PS3 exclusives have been duds. Other then Uncharted and MGS4 (which I am lukewarm about) the PS3 exclusives that are out really don't pack a punch. While 360 exclusives have seemed to keep people interested in the system.
