Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo WiFi Connection should be getting better

I may be in the minority here, but Nintendo's online's mostly been good to me. It connects easily and rarely has lag. The only game that's an exception is Brawl (and what an exception...). If the rest of y'all are having problems, then I guess Nintendo's still got some work to do, but like I said everything's fine for me.

@noname: I don't think anyone complains about does it work or not, but how it works. You rarely have lag (with the exception of Brawl) and it's easy to use, but people still don't like friendcodes.

Ah, gotcha. While I don't much mind those either, I wouldn't be disappointed if they went away. Still, I'm not completely sure why having to enter friendcodes single-handedly makes Nintendo's online as crappy as some have claimed (although not in this thread).

@FaithRaven: Haha. Yeah, i like to find out things by myself too.
Oh, a programmer. That explains it, then you know that it's not going to work anyway as intended.

With standby connection turned off you cannot access the News and Weather channels. You have to agree that this is stupid.

WiiConnect24 sucks big time. Why the hell am I forced to keep my Wii powered 24/7 to have access to the Nintendo Channel is beyond me ...

What's the problem with keeping it on? It costs you ~ 0.5 dollars a year

The Wii being hot all the time, thats the problem. It doesn't make any noise or anything but it's hot. And it also keeps the game dvds inside hot.

And actually the main problem is that it's pointless, I gain nothing.

"With standby connection turned off you cannot access the News and Weather channels. You have to agree that this is stupid."

No duh. You just turned off your entire Wii Wi-Fi connection and you can easily turn it back on in 10 seconds.

Erm no ... Standby connection turned off means that ... Wii has no Wi-Fi connection while it's in standby connection (console turned off - yellow led). But while the Wii if turned on ofc you have Wi-Fi connection. You can play online and you can access the Nintendo Channel. But you cannot access the weather and news channels.

@FaithRaven: If i recall that's how it works. I'm not sure why it's done like that, since the only thing you benefit from it, are the headlines in the menu and instant access for the news for the news channel, but weather channel apparently takes updates only at certain times of the day. I don't know whether it's because of Weathernews or the design of the system. In any case, the idea is to have instant access without any user downloading. Feels stupid, i know.

Wii online has been fine for me. Though I do like the suggestion Bacon made, where your console number is the universal friend code for each game you purchase - that would make more sense. I guess there's some kind of hindrance with that given that Nintendo hasn't done that. I'm sure they've thought about it... maybe.

I don't see what is the problem with leaving your Wii on standby 24/24...

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

@Kenology: Wii is a relative of Family Computer, instead of Personal Computer, and is designed to have multiple users. So the Wii friendcode would need to be linked to your Mii (making multiple Miis, each with different account possible).

@Soriku: There's two options for WC24 (yes, you all must notice what the Wii revolves around), standby connection "on" or "off". When it's on, you see the yellow light on standby and Wiis network services are functional and when it's off, you see the red light on standby and Wiis network services are functional only after you turn Wii on.
