Forums - Sales - Does a gaming system also being a media hub make you want to buy it?

I know MS came into the market so Sony would not be able to become the media hub in the living toom.  My question is do you buy a gaming sytem because its a hub and has say, Media center synch, blue ray player, internet access, or whatever?

I but a gaming system for one thing and on thing only to game on!! I buy the best gaming system for me.  If it has other things bonus but I dont care about being a media hub center am I different than the rest of you?

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

I don't care about most extra things, but having blu-ray played a pretty big decision in my buying of a PS3 at the time.

Yeah I have the 360 and I agree the blu ray player is the one thing I wish MS had.

I would never buy a system that does not have multimedia playback. Any company that sells you an electronic device with as much power as home consoles do, and then F**Ks you buy not doing a simple thing like DVD playback should be taken to court. I don't want a gimped POS, just because a company thinks that their consumers don't see it nessecery to include basic functionality. That is why one console which I will not name will be the first console ever that I don't buy from a certant company.

Yes I think for me personally, Being a media hub is a bonus. I bought the Wii because

1) The new controle meathod.

2) My wife was interested in it

3) It was cheapest.

I am definetly inteding on buying another console be it a 360 or PS3. 360 has interested me because of it's media capabilities with my Windows Media Centre PC... PS3 has Blue Ray player. Both are very appealing to me as a gamer, and avid movie buff.

It's me...  no really, it IS me!!!

Yeah, Blu-ray was a big decision in me getting the PS3 as early as I did. I love the quality of BD.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

media hub=waste of time. Blu Ray player is mildly useful, but BD is so expensive, I would probably only buy BD over DVD for a few select movies, probably The Dark Knight and... thats it.

I use my game systems for games pretty much exclusively.. I have used PS3 to play the free blu-rays I got with it but that was about it.

I did try to do the PS3 media function but after being unable to get my Anime .avis to run past like 10 seconds I just gave up. Admittedly I didn't have much patience for it and probably wouldn't use it often even if I could figure it out. However you just reminded me and now it's bothering me, does anybody have any idea what the problem might be? contact me via pm.

A couple of weeks ago I found out that I could stream videos to my 360, I had fun with it for an hour or two and then just continued to watch stuff on my 22" widescreen monitor.

If I want a blu ray player then I will buy a blu ray player, if i want a dvd player I will buy that, when I buy my gaming console I dont want to pay an additional 100$ for features that I will never use. That's why I always wanted to build my pc, it was annoying to pay so much extra for prebuilt PCs that had all these useless card readers and such but not have a video card that would be able to play new games.

In my personal experience, the population of gamers that are also into watching movies is fairly low. Occasionally me and my friends watch a dvd on a PS2 or 360 but in the end, those that watch a lot of tv dont game, and those that game a lot dont watch tv. Hell, my apartment does not even have basic channels. All we are getting is internet.

It's not such a big deal for me. If it comes with it, fine, but I'm not going to go outta my way to buy something with the multimedia hub. I go for games that interest me.
