Forums - Gaming - What are the differences between a hardcore and a casual gamer?

Also, using terms like pWn3D and n00b makes you a hardcore gamer as well.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

My definition of causal is someone who plays games for less than an hour at a time or plays very limited per week. Harcore gamers will play 4-6 hours a stretch and some weeks 5-20 hours. Its not a system thing its a playing thing.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

Casuals play on Nintendo, hardcores play on Sony.

That's it.

Well rol is hardcore and he plays on nintendo.....................

Think about it this way, a hardcore gamer would literally stare at his/her televison screen for hours just to get an item that's needed to create the ultimate weapon. Something like this would probably take hours, if not, days to accomplish. A casual gamer just plays game that often require little thought. They play just for the minute fun factor that it'll provide.

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

Guidelines to understanding my train of thought:

  • THE METAL GEAR SOLID FRANCHISE IS THE BEST THING TO HIT THE PLANET SINCE THE PS3!! THUS, MGS FRANCHISE >> SLICED-BREAD.
  • Solid Snake shall and well always shove 1up mushrooms up Mario's ass.
  • Solid Snake shall and well always decimate Master Chief with a flurry of rocket launchers, shotgun rounds, and a 20 minute monologue.

Truth posted: thread finished. Well done.

Better question: whats the difference between core and hardcore gamers?

Anyway, casuals play games primarily to bond with tohers, and don't bother to learn alot of facts/become particularly skilled. They like Guitar hero, Wii sports, Monkey ball, mario, Imagine, Nintendogs, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Animal Crossing ect.

Hardcore gamers don't want the industry to change, expect to be catered to, like overly violent/overly sexual games, care alot about technological capabilities, are very well informed about video games, are very skilled at gaming, and are generally very competitive gamers who like playing online.

I consdier myself a core gamer, as I don't expect to be catered to, don't like voilent or sexaul games, don't care very much about technological advantages past the GC (I don't like DS's 3D though), am very well informed about gaming, and am only mildly competivitve and dislike playing online.
